Looking at the weather readings from the Prom, it seems that a 40+ knots blast of sub 10 degrees wind hit Sandy Point just before dark (50-60 knots at the Prom!). It would have been no good though. With high tide at around 3pm, the Low air pressure and SW wind tide surge I am sure the tide would have prevented access, let alone sailing the speed bank. Oh well. another chance escapes us. . Next week the tides are favorable and the forecasts are crap. At least we have good snowfalls on the hills. Bring on the Snow Season!

Was thinking of heading down there, but the wind was forecast to come through too close to dark to make the 6-hour round trip worthwhile.

Could be a different story once I get my night-sailing lights sorted though .

It's 27 to 32kts and 27degrees at Green Island at the moment,

and should be increasing tomorrow.

Its also safer to fly for 4hrs than drive 6 and you only need boardy's.

Wind chill factor? sounds too cold for some of us.
You guys are so lucky with the SW wind at Sandy Point, few here in Auckland are planning on flying to Sandy Point regularly when conditions are Primo (more imports).

Lots of snow in NZ already, could be the year to visit our NZ slopes.
This year I'm taking the kids to the snow at Mt Ruapehu, just need to wait for a High Pressure system to be over the North Island during winter, there is no fun being up the mountain with a strong SW wind ~ wind chill -30C is too cold while sitting on a chair lift!
