What booms are mostly used at our place ? Please recomend me what is the best booms for speedsailing, using with like smaller sails, around 5-6m2.
I am interested in boom like 160-220, for use on like vapor 6.0
What brands is mostly used in AU, or NL - what is your suggestions?

Thanx in advance

Go with the best.
Neil Pryde X9 carbon 160-220 or 180-230.
Even pro's not sponsored by Neil Pryde use these boom in slalom and speed comps.

Hi Warrior your a pretty light guy at around 65kgs so most Al booms should be ok especialy if you only using it with a 6.0.
Carbon is the bees knees but depends on ya budget.
Ive had the Loft carbon for over 2 years, that is the longest Ive had a boom for.

Both the Maui Sails booms at my local have broken adjuster pins but maybe they don't make them like that any more. idk.

Yess thanx to all
I use so far The Loft Slalom (175) and this boom is full OK with both of my Loft sails (7.4 and 5.9). For my 5.0 I use so far Prolimit pro 160 (my 5.0 is 167 on boom).
I was just thinking about lighter boom, maybe wider in the back, I will try to check The Loft or maybe Technolimits.....

Actually most Carbon booms are not that light at all, most of the weight being in the tail piece.

so, I guess, The Loft Standard Slalom is most ideal boom for me at this point of my knowledge, right?
It's not very weight and is monocoque builded, but standard shape (which I like the most, not new round ones). Very strong and not heavy boom. Will be OK for me...
Thanx

Second idea is to see what you prefered to ride here in AU, and what is favorite booms of NL crue. That is what I am interest to read
Here in CRO most of crue have NP mostly x6, x3, Technolimits, Prolimit, RRD and Gaastra or Simmer booms, and some of crue ride North booms (very good but expensive booms). Not so many full carbon riders, maybe few one who is using it for slalom events (official in cro)

I regret buying mine. After about 8 sessions on the water using the boom the grip started falling off and had to be regripped and also within the year both trim lock adjusters at the back of the boom had snapped and needed replacing. Not what i expect when i had paid 700 euros for the boom. I expected quality and instead got a boom that i had nothing but problems with. I still have it as the use i have got out of it Vs how much i will get back when i sell, it simply is not worth my while selling it as i will not get enough for it so i kept it as a spare

Been using Chinook carbon booms for nearly 5 years and never had a problem with them. Very strong aswell as i weigh 100 kg and have had some big crashes speedsailing and havn't broke one yet. In fact i have one of each size now and would never get another boom. They are also one of the lightest booms on the market so check them out

Since you are in Qld. have a look at Sunshine Alloy for that size and your weight. Can by half a dozen for the price of a carbon boom and in the smaller sizes below 6m they are fine for stiffness. Front end is the best in the business, fits SDM and RDM equally well with no shim and is used by other brands. Get the normal, wider one not the new Mono something. Avoid narrow booms for slalom and speed. Some NP carbons I have seen are a bit too narrow IMHO.

IRL250, sounds like you have more a problem with the shop you bought it from than the boom itself.
All manufacturers have a small percentage of their products that sneak through testing and end up on the market.
I know that with the shop I deal with in Perth, with a boom that did that, it would be replaced without question.
Did you take it up with the shop?

Not entirely sure why someone would red thumb this reply, I have an x9 and swear by it. Kinda sounds like Holden vs Ford to me

Pepe, those sneaky red thumbers are everywhere...
Don't believe the thumbs (or the hype)
I have a couple of X9's, all are at least 5 seasons old and still going strong.
I reckon they are a great boom.
I think I'll green thumb that.

Dont bother with Ali booms if you want to use them for longer than a couple of seasons. I persisted for a while and then turned to the carbon booms after my Ali ones kept snapping. All of mine (3 off) are second hand and cost between $300 and $500 bucks. All of them over over 3 years old one is approx 6). The best i have is the 160-210 Areon Carbon. It is so nice to use. pretty heavy though

I Have a NP X6.
Best boom of under $500 I think. Depends on how much money you have to spend!
I would love a NP X9. Twice the price of the X6 !

Here's some X9's at Alcati last year.
Not attached to any Pryde sails.

Plenty of Gaastra, North and Severne there

I bought the boom in the Gorge when i was there on holiday and all the problems started when i got back home so couldn't return it to the shop. I did approach a shop in Ireland and was told it was normal wear and tear

Everyone i know with X9 booms has had issues with the grip falling off and trim lock adjusters breaking so its not a case of a small percentage of products sneaking through testing. As far as i'm concerned the quality is shocking and i will never buy another neil pryde product.

I would not recommend Sunshine booms. I bought one in about 170-220cm in a pinch before going to Burrum Heads after bending my Aeron and it's the biggest piece of junk I have owned. Everything about it feels as cheap as it is. Only boom I have felt noticeably flexing while using. The screws holding the arms to the head weren't even finger tight when I first got it. Says a bit about quality control to me.

How was the Aeron? Made in the same factory with the same materials AFAIK...........

Never has a problem with loose screws (I wish! ) but that is easy to fix. They were probably assembled in Oz so not the manufactures fault.

I would not particularly recommend the longer alloys though, and if you must get a longer alloy, get the 32mm one.

Agree with Sailslow most of those bolted type booms arrive in Aus in 4 pieces then assembled here.

I have been impressed with the Aerons. They certainly appear to be of higher quality to me, but they do cost more too. I have no idea where each is made but the only materials that could be the same is the tubing. The fittings aren't even close to similar.

I knew it was cheap and bought it out of necessity at short notice so I shouldn't complain too much. There aren't many options in Mackay, I was lucky to even get a boom in the length I needed.

all of my booms are carbon KA booms both wave and race. i run my wave boom on full extension and have never broken it. had them for 3-4 years now. (maybe even 5). love them and never had a problem.

they have the 2 pin clip system so only thing i have done is replace the clips every couple of years. talking to other people that have them they wash their gear and have not needed to replace the clips.

amac one told me that each boom is tested by the ka guys prior to sale also.

what happened to your Pryde boom haggar? or are you just after another boom.

My Pryde X9's going great mate, but I broke my large Loft boom the other week, so want another carbon. For me its about having the least amount of breakages on the water as possible. Dont fancy being k's off Queens Beach and break a boom You gotta have two booms really so you can have two rigs setup
