Just had a squiz at Windguru's forecast for Sandy Point for this Sunday (26th April).

Direction looks right (touch wood on that one).

With Mathew's adjustment it's looking like 34 knot averages with 46 knot gusts.

That's just nuts!

Wonder who'll have the cojones to take it on?

I'll be hunkered down down Geelong-way repairing my gear and glancing fearfully out the window in awe as Huey shows us all who's boss.

Hopefully will have the gear ready in time for next Wednesday along with a new speedboard (fingers-crossed on that one!).

Is it true a few West Ozzies are heading that way???????

They better be on the very very early flight as low tide is at 7am after which it will all turn to S@$T.I might have to go to a different spot instead

A few of us may be out at Pt Henry - got to go out if there is wind. You never know how long it will be before we get a decent forecast again

How does that work? do we have to cut down extra tree's so slowie can't get in

Last I heard mid afternoon, Slowie was staying home due to extreme uncertainty of forecast wind directions. Chris Adamson is coming though.

I have just been checking all the models again. Out of 6 different models I get 6 completely different forecast scenarios ranging from EPIC to stay at home in front of the fire. Bloody 'ell! Did I mention SNOW forecast down to 1000m? Tom might have to brush the white stuff off his roof to tie his boards on! Brrrrr!

hope the planets line up for you guys it will be good to see someone get some action... looks like your weather guys our like ours......farkin useless!

Yep it's a low pressure system. It could be epic, it could be crap, but if you're not there, you'll only read about it! Either way it should be freakin' windy.

I think they have jinxed us... or is that 'Slowied' us? Either way the forecasts are looking worse and worse..........

Craigs spot is looking better all the time......

It gusting around 40 49 knots at the moment. Thats even a little too much for me. Hopefully it will drop a little after lunch.

Its a Victorian Regional Channels Authority site so I dont think it will be any good for you. Maybe SA has a similar site.

Red went down and had a look at a couple of our local spots and with the temp around 13 degrees, wind gusts averaging over 40 knots, rain and occasional hail, we both decided that it was a good day to sit at home. Maybe over the other side of the bay, the conditions may be a little more favourable.

Well it was a little windy today...40 to 60kts from the NW which is not a lot of fun at the Pit with a storm surge high tide (Up to the base of the bbq) So we went on a road trip in search of some new sailable spots.When the wind is a little calmer we,ll go and sail some of these. Matt,Red and Slowley were the only ones sailing when i left at 4pm and the tide was still at the bbq,so its unlikely that any speed stuff will be done today. But you never know

No big stories at the Pit today; y windy but the direction was all wrong and the bank was completely underwater even as the sun went down, due to the huge storm surge. Slowy had a blast around on his 5.0 in open water in the middle of the inlet but he peaked out in the 38s. Pretty quick but probably not worth the flight over from Perth for.

There is a glimmer of hope for tomorrow morning, otherwise no joy on this mission.

Can't be disappointed; this is the nature of our sport and sometime the weather can suprise us on the upside.

Bad luck there ado... well at least chris got to dust off the 5.0 for once ;P
Say, how about some alphas and hours tomorrow? grabbing the april cup might just make the trip worthwile ;P

The wind change came too late. It has just hit now at about 7pm and outside in the dark the whole landscape is shaking and rocking! Last reading at the prom was WSW 56-68 knots. Even taking off 15 to 20 knots for Sandy Point that is a helluva wind!
I have only heard it like this a few times before so even if it was daylight I'm not sure it would be very sailable. Must be at least 40 knots gusting nuclear out there! Tide must surely have dropped enough by now to at least have a bank to run but who knows, it's pitch black?
Today the tide had hardly dropped 3 hours after the official peak at about 2.30! We still could not even think about driving in at sunset (6pm) so there would still have been no bank to run.
Sixteen sailors here today. At 3.30pm there were 14 of us standing in the BBQ shelter while wild rain squalls were pelting through watching Mat Robertson and Chris Lockwood trying to sail up the back of the inlet on the high tide. No one else was the least bit tempted to join them.

It was absolutely hammering, wind and rain.



There are 13 guys (and a dog) standing in the shelter. No-one tempted to join Mat and Chris....

This was at least 2 and a half hours after high tide. The high was up the the bottom brick of the BBQ and even now it had only dropped about 15 cms. At this stage it started to become painfully obvious it wasn't going to drop anywhere enough to sail the speed course before dark

Looks cold... Brrr!
