Hi,

I had a good sail today and based on my GT-11's trip meter I got a couple of PBs. I've posted what I can to the GTC site. However if possible I'd like to get today's data if its lurking somewhere on the GT-11.

The other option is to get the files for today's sail to be read somehow. I'm not sure what happened but it created over twenty files from today. Not sure why but if that data can be used somehow that would be great. All the files are 0 k/b in size except for the last one created which is 6 k/b in size.

It looks like the session is hosed but if something can be salvaged that would be great.

try the save to card option in datalogger to see if you get any data
in the memory card menu make sure that file size is set to card size
have a look at min speed in both memory card and datalogger menus and make sure it is not set too high
make sure that log switch in memory card is set to on-fix

what he said. Always clear the data logger before a new session just in case you hit what has just happened. Its a good back up.
You can down load the GT-11 own memory via Navi Link, direct to your lap/desktop, this maybe an option.
Hope you get the data

I checked out Navilink and got the GT-11 talking to the computer via USB.

I was able to download data from the GT-11 to a folder, there are a number of files, GPX, NMEA & KML files but I think they do not contain yesterday's data.

The GPS is set as recommended:

File size is card size
Minimum speed is set to 1
Log switch is set to on-fix

I'm not too worried about it as it was a great sail. The first sail for about four months, the first decent sail on my Tabou Rocket 105 and the first sail with my Loft 02 5.9. The board was really great. The sail was good but needs tuning.

The best thing was the location. Westerly winds around here normally mean gusty winds that are not that much fun to sail. However at this place the winds were quite consistent. The water was quite flat and it was around chest deep right across. The only downer is the amount of weed requiring a weed fin.

I went through all of the GT-11's settings and they are all correct. On Sunday it went for a drive with me in Sydney to pick up a mate about 20kms away and all was good, maximum speed about 28 knots!

Very strange as it created a whole bunch of files when I was sailing, all are 0kb in size.

Oh well.

Have you updated the firmware, Moby? With the update, the GT-11 is much more stable in its operation, as well as having a nicer menu choice. Especially useful (I find) is a means of software-locking the toggle from accidental operation.

The correct firmware version is 1115. Get it from Tom's "Mt. Best" site. You'll need a "USB to mini-USB" cable.

I updated the firmware once, around a year and a half ago. The update included the speed genie. I'm not sure what version I uploaded.

Perhaps the problem is a two fold one. Firstly I had not sailed for a long time, close to four months due to a number of circumstances. So I was not in sync with making sure the GPS was operating correctly. I remember it wanting to Cold Start. I've let it do this before and its worked fine after that. So I thought it would be okay.

Secondly I was so keen get out for a sail. The wind was great. It was a new spot for me. I saw people out there ripping it up. I had new gear to try out and try to tune a bit. So the GPS took a bit of a lower priority.

As I mentioned I tested out the GT-11 the next day and it worked fine.

Anyway its good to find a spot thats reasonable in the westerly winds we get around this time of year.

A bit closer to Sydney than both those guesses. Starts with a "C".

I had not sailed there before due to the weed but now have a weed fin.

I've had the same problem, once and felt the problem was mine for not letting the GPS "settle" and lock on to the satellite's.
my routine for sailing is to: Clear GPS of data (after downloading) at home: turn on GPS while rigging (to give lots of time to lock onto satellite's): strap to arm and go sail !!
hope you can get the data back from your last sail, hate losing data..

That sounds right, the GT11 seems to have trouble fixing satellite positions while it's moving around.
It's best to wait until it's found a fix, and you're getting a speed reading before sailing.
The multi files could be created, when it thinks it's found a fix, then found it hasn't???
