looks a lot better than it is from the air... that pic hides all the crap upwind Also shows a normal summer tide. When we've been sailing it lately the only thing out of the water is the bushes! Great pic Col. And this one from Chris Porter yesterday shows it from ground level And those trees in the background are at the lowest part of the upwind land... to the left and right are big hills (just out of view from Cols pics). Looks like yesterday was a cracker.

So here's another- this is Lake Clifton near Mandurah, taken from the northen end of the 'LAKE'.
There is quite a few more of Point Walter even close ups of individual sailor's but the closer you get the more the water look's brown.

There has to be a reason why the above lake is not being hammered by the various teams.
Especially a notorious team who are all located down that way [}:)][}:)]

I can only assume it is too shallow, too salty and subsequently too dangerous.

Any one care to fill me in??? (on the details of the place that is)

Because the lake is filed with Throbolites (hope I spelt it correctly)

That and you'll get into some major poo for sailing there

The last punter who tried to sail at Lake Clifton actually dissolved before he got to the end of the run - poor bugger!

Not really

As usual for the wind direction (WSW) the gustiness was extreme, the tide was high most of the day, and the squalls (which were approaching 45K) were totally unsailable.

Neither Yoyo nor I had any joy. Mark did well and Darryl made it look easy rocking up for the late sesh and nailing a 40 on the dial. The late sesh was better, slightly flatter water, but still hell gusty.

After my last two attempts sailing Wallyworld in a WSW front I have concluded that it is a peculiar form of masochism that only the desperate and/or deranged would enjoy.

There is a reason you cant sail at lake clifton.

IT IS ILLEGAL!!

In fact all the Yalgorup National Park lakes are off limits except Yoyo's south of the bar. For that exception we can thank the Bunbury waterski club and grandfather clauses.

Even Yoyo's may be a bit questionable as that section near the bar has been reserved for canoes whilst sailing/boating is allowed on the southern 2/3 of that part of the lake south of the bar.

So they make all of your speed strips illegal and ban daylight savings over there...
I'll make sure I show more compassion for the plight of the next WA speed-refugee that turns up at The Pit

So much land and sea and not a decent speed strip left. But if you are a developer, then that's all right...you go right ahead.
