Are they dead when the hard plastic strip that helps form the opening doesn't stay in place anymore are are they still ok to use without it? It seems that's always the first thing to go.

I replace the bag when the pocket the hard plastic strip sits in breaks. Its not worth risking my GPS

Yes replace it not worth risking it

Once the hard plastic falls out, the bag is no longer as water tight as it used to be.
Water won't poor in, but it'll certainly get damp in there.
I've used one with some paper towelling between the opening and the GPS to soak up any moisture, while I was waiting for a new pouch to arrive.

I put my GPS in the Paqua and two sandwich bags as well. No water.

Thanks. Yep I chucked the other 2 when that happened. grr don't seem to last long..May have to look at the warranty.

I think I have 5 now that have gone at the plastic strips. (I know I use them a lot!)
Maybe we can send a mass letter to Paqua asking them if they can upgrade that part of the pack?

Or if we all go and get replacement under warranty ( like I did with the last one)..That might give them the hint!

I'd be happy to support a letter.

I'm happy with the wear of mine, yes that's the first thing to go, but I've only bought about 3 in 6years.
And at least I'm confident that there's a definite sign of wear that doesn't drown my device.
I'd much rather have that part wear out a year or so early, than the main envelope dying a year later.

On to my second Perspex box in ten years. Replaced a few straps and rubber gaskets in that time but very few failures of the gps

Mike, I'm the same, I treat the bag as a consumable that needs replacing every second year, similar to:
- tendon - every year
- boom clamp rope - every year
- booties - every second year (although my Atans may need replacing every year)

Better to replace before they break

Hi new to Seabreeze forum.

Just seeking some advice. Looking at buying the Paqua bumbag for Standup Paddle boarding. Any advice? Just to carry phone, basic first aid and water bottle to do tours. Thoughts? Have read all comments that they are consumable item that deteriorate over time (but why? through over use?? poor quality of materials - two year life span on product does seem a bit short) and needs replacing.

All sorted, spoke directly with Paqua and they advise that their original produce had issues but latest line the 'Paquaclear' has got around these. This produce is suppose to be more durable and waterproof and, in theory, have a longer life span...

If the soft waterproof bags, the Paqua is by far the best out there.

If the soft waterproof bags, the Paqua is by far the best out there. Steer away from the Aquapac. I had quite a few fail catastrophically!

Greg,

I'm using a H2OAudio bag. It has an water proof external ear phone plug. I use it with my smart phone / gps-logit / speed chat. It works really well and looks to be well built and robust.

The marine shop where I bought it said to email them ( aquapack) direct re the failing..

I have been using an Overboard waterproof pouch for over 5 years. I purchased it from a Gold Coast business. www.over-board.com.au
