LOL, yeah the tail gate is too small. The rest is ok....., for now before the boy starts sailing.
I'm open to offers to signwrite her. I approached SEVERNE, no word back- the offer is still there thou. Might have to contact FLYING OBJECTS.

Firstly I have to lower her another 50mm, fix some wiring issues under the dash, make a set of roof racks and screw on the new number plates on "AIRKOOL"- then I can go sailing!

I worry about the radically lowered suspension on these old classics. The road jolts coming through will surely crack and fatigue the old girls.

My first car was a '56 beetle, my mate had a split window kombie. I've a soft spot for the old VWs.

You need not worry. The parts are tested and proven over many years all over the world. I have 2.1/2" drop spindles, a front beam narrowed 3.1/2" and adjusters on the beam so can go lower or higher. Every thing mechanical is new.
It handles like a go cart.

Ah! drop spindles, that's not how it was done in the old days. Has the rear swing axle gone as well? You used to be able to get a leaf spring to connect one axle to the other under the diff, to try and compensate for the dreadful geometry. Beetles were quite popular when I was 18. Mine was one of the few that didn't have dents on the roof.

Mines a 1960 Semiphore big window with a very well fitted rag top. Can hardly tell its not original. Indicators on guards added. Turns on outer splines & inner splines give you the correct height and tyres help to but very illegal. I run 195 rears and 145 fronts. Some run 135 fronts. Currently building a 1776 with twin 40 idf webers, Scat C35 cam, ported heads etc etc, then it's time to fit disc brakes. More expensive than wind surfing !

Ian if you want another i can set you up with a nice 1960 project. My wife won't let me buy

Thanks Deano, but maybe not. We used to run 5.60 X 15 Goodyear ployglas crossplys. Everything happened at low speed. Your red one would really have turned heads back then.

I moved on to a 1973 beetle which was a lot better but just not the same. A mate moved on to a Porsche 356B. Didn't cost all that much I seem to recall. It ran really well by comparison. Bet he wishes he had it now, but the way he bought and sold cars I doubt it.
