Err not quite, you take the broken bottom part of the mast that's connected to the full top part, and throw it away. Then take the top part out of the sail through the luff cutout, spin it around, re-insert back up the luff tube through the cutout, then insert it into the broken section.
You end up with about half of your sail being supported by the mast, the top bit flaps around a bit and due to no downhaul it's a bit like a sack of potatoes without the spuds but you can still plane back to the beach.
