New GPS World Record

Antoine Albeau has had his claim for the WGPSSRC record ratified.

WGPSSRC record is now 52.91 Knots (97.98 KMH)

It's a relief that the official world record and the GPS record are now by the same guy on the same run (presumably).

Here ends the debate about who was really the fastest and did A2 hit 50 knots on the canal at Sts Maries De La Mer? etc.

The answer is blowing in the wind - a massive gust with A2 on the front of it!

You mean: the official 500m world record and the official GPS 10 second record.

The GPS record was done on a different day, the 25th November.
We did not receive Antoine's tracks from his WSSRC 500m record on the 21st.

On the GPS record run, Antoine's GPS interpolated 500m speed was 51.9.

The 2 second speed was 54.136 on both GPS! The +/- error reported for that is 0.21, but given 10 sats. and identical readings from both GPS, I would have a high degree of confidence that the indicated speed is very, very close to the actual speed.

I will post the graphs of the record run shortly.

I split the screen up to make it larger and readable.

This the AA's 10 sec. record run.

Here is the same run 500m interpolated. Note the slowish start speed and slowing down before the end gate. This is similar to other graphs I have seen which suggest the speeds could be even faster if the course could be another 50-100m longer. Of course, it can't. There just is not any more room to dig it, and the slow down area at the end is already quite marginal (for 500m).

I certainly would not bet against it either Tone. On the same day, Bjorn's best run was only about half a knot slower but he entered the 500m course almost 2 knots slower. He also was slowing sharply at the end losing almost 5 knots in the last second, but up to that point he was accelerating the whole run.
