I just had a quick word with Tim Daddo on the beach today as they finished packing MI up for a few weeks. He said they recon they have a 500m run over 48 knots but they are still awaiting final calculations and, of course, approval from the WSSRC.
If this is confirmed it would be a new class C world record (from previous holder Yellow Pages) and would make it the fastest sit down boat, just shading SailRockets' pending class B record.
A numbers of yesterdays runs bettered their previous record with Yellow Pages.
Their beach anemometers had an average wind speed of around 17 knots on this run. That is astounding efficiency!!!
Tim said they were pretty much sheeted fully in for the whole run and is confident that, with a little more wind and being able to sheet out a little, there is much more speed in the boat. They would still like a nice 20-22 knots of wind but that will have to wait until after Christmas when they are hoping to come back for another attempt.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the key criteria to its efficiency - fixed sail(wing)?, fin / hull design? x factor?

They better be quick coz there is a fair chance their major sponor may decide to pull out of funding such activities. Good on them though, such incredible efficiencies will hopefully be transferred to other technologies. Competition is a key to innovation along with collaboration.

Sausage the wing looks pretty efficient, soon as they sheet in its off down the course real quick, no way I was going to keep up. We all had watch as it went past down the 500, it makes a slight whistling turbine like sound.

It was quite funny listening to the motors of the 2 support craft and quad bike screaming thier t#ts off as they went racing after it though each time it started a run.

Actually, their peaks speeds were over 50 knots!
