Just got this off gps-ss site:

Pieter Hamstra did a new distance record on August 4 at Lauwermeer in the Netherlands. The new distance record is now 325 km. The previous record was from Simon Kloostra. Congrats Pieter hamstra!

i wonder how you would need to go about setting up a serious attempt at busting a distance record??

obviously your going to need quite a constant wind for most of a day (more than 8hrs).

would you be better of doing it in the ocean and doing longer legs or is it better in flatter water so you can have a higher average velocity.

food and hydration would be very important.

Gear caddies to sail out diff gear for you is the wind or water conditions changed?

support boat??

any other ideas?? (btw i wont be attempting)

I think company is a huge help so maybe a morning and afternoon shift of people to keep sailing with you.
Also I find it easier to keep at it if someone else is going for distance at the same time. You may not talk much (not much time for it if the winds keeps blowing) but the competition/ wanting to post a big score to support the other person if in the GTC helps me Not that I have ever sailed a day I could have gone close
