review:

I have used heaps of slalom sails over the last 20 years I have been sailing. Most feel very similar, fast but a bit focused on one thing and stiff with limited range.

Naish Grand Prix 5.8:
This is a super fast and rock solid sail that I would recommend to speed and slalom sailors. I have used this on a Falcon 104 and isonic 76 and it has early plaining grunt and top speed that will take you to the next level. super fast off the wind and easy jibe because of reduced swing weight that will have you blasting past your mates. Rotation is fantastic and power delivery out of a jibe is sweet. The new sail scrim is a light, strong and looks good as well. if you are looking in the market for super fast sail but like me want easy to set and rig right to go fast this sail is worth the coin and should last a few seasions.

Next I need get this gps thing working and Dave has offered many times to help me get that side of things going, thanks for that Dave, and I will have to get organised one day with you so that I can get times down on the gps.

Thanks for the question, I used a Naish firestick 100% skinny at first, which I use for my 6.4 Naish Stealth, but I find it sets better on a standard dia mast. I use a North 430 carbon 75% and it sets very well on that.

I have one Naish Redline 5.8 with a Neil Pryde X9 Wave 430 2007 and one Naish Grand Prix 7m with a Gaastra Gold 100% 460. I'll change the Redline 5.8 for a Grand Prix 5.8 this year and certainly buy also a North Platinum 460 and a North Gold 430 which will function better with the sails.

The Dash-for-Cash this Tuesday might be a good starting point for testing out the GPS (and the Naish Grand Prix if it's windy enough). Briefing is at 2PM, so get there a little earlier and we can go through the GPS settings.

Great to have you on board. You'll start using that iSonic 76 a little more often I suspect. Steve and I have started trying 1 hrs in the bay off Mortimer in a southerly, so you'll have to join us next time.

We've also picked up another team member today!! The new registration format for the GPSTC is great.

This year we are taking the kids up to Scamander at Dash for Cash time. So I am sorry for being unable to attend this year. As with every year it is a well-run event which I have enjoyed being a part of over the years.

I would like to provide a spot prize for the Dash for Cash, which will be a 5.7 new, not used KA KAOS 2006 bombproof construction sail as a give away to the best style master 90’s gear participant that completes the dash. I am talking old school board and sails with the 90 looks to match.

Pity you can't make the Dash-for-Cash this year. That's a fantastic offer to put that new KA KAOS sail up for grabs to a lucky sailor on '90s gear, thankyou!!

The cash and prizes are rolling in, so it should be another good event.

This event is hosted by the Sandy Bay Regatta Association and runs regardless of the weather. It is a dash across the Derwent River to one of many permanent marks on the oter side (the one that provides the best angle over and back is chosen) and back. Any gear can be used and it's a beach start, with first back to the beach the winner.

Briefing is at 2PM and the race can start any time between 2:15 and 3:00 PM. A rescue boat is on hand and lifejackets must be worn. Entry is $10, with all entry fees going back into the prize pool.

Hi Dave if there is no old gear or style masters on the day make it a lucky draw prize.

Yeah everyone in Tassie it's a great day out, with the regatta stuff going on and the dash. I'll be back to defend my last placing, (maybe not on the longboard and I've got a bigger sail this year), but I won a lucky prize, and the beers after are always welcome.
