Re too much DH, it's possible as I am not the best rigger. It is listed for 34cm but my ext only goes to 32cm. I did have it max downhaul (32) and lots of outhaul cause most others were going out on less than 5 something's and that is 6.5. but I didn't feel OP at all.

I guess it is a thing for slalom guys to be riding 1+m more than bump and jump guys?

One meter or more., but the Speedfreak is not really so great to sail overpowered. It think one meter difference is the limit, then it will start to deform, or at least my test-sample did years ago. I never passed 26-27 knots with that sail.

Overpowered ... at 70 Kg I can be on 6.5-6.0 when people are out with 4.7. Not really a problem (at least in flattish water). Once you get in the proper asset the sail and board do all the work. But a pro level sailor can sail in control on a very big sail and way harder conditions. Just last week I was out at Crissy Field in San Francisco very powered up with 3.7, basically nobody with anything bigger than 4.2 out. Big chop with some swell. There was a guy out with an Isonic and a Severne Race 7.8 (yep ... twice the size). He was having fun, doing 360s (followed by a jibe) on the inside

If I were you I would stay away from the speedfreak, they are not fast sails at all. I can go 30-32 10" knots with my Point-7 ACX (no cams), and I have repeated best 2" at 36 knots with HSM GPS (4 cams). The Speedfreak will hold you back, it is a recreational sail.

Yes, of course you can use a 7.5 in the Bay, the guy was using a 7.8! At my weight my 7.3-7. sails are mostly used in october, march and during winter.

Got it. I like the speedfreak for foiling, so it needs to be dual purpose.

Maybe in a few seasons when my slalom skills are better and my speeds have topped out I will explore faster sails. One of my mates has a 4 cam race sail he can loan me with mast and everything so maybe I will do a side by side test.

It's less about gear than you'd expect.
A newbie bud of mine has been GPS'd at consistent 30 peaks over the weekend. He's that perfect 185 lbs and 5'11", 6.5 3 cam and Goya 115.
I'm sailing almost even with 5.0 1995 Windwing wave and tri fin Firewave 92, in flattish waters.
Top speeds very similar, he get's me upwind in the lulls.

Also, respect the gear you are using.
Most sails with roach have great midrange, so use it there and avoid the very top end.

What is roach?

That fat part of your sail between the 2nd batten from the tip to 1 batten above your boom.
It blows out before your leech when you're OP'd, causes stagger and backhand loading.

I all ways thought.... Roach is actually anything outside of a triangle drawn with straight lines between the tack, clew and tip of the sail? Google seems to agree.

Modern windsurf sails tend to have roach on all three sides of that triangle, not always but mostly

Pinhead or not has no relevance. Ezzy sails has a clear diagram using a modern shaped sail as the example
