So I've picked up an IS76 and with the westerlies just around the corner its time to start thinking about Lake Illawarra.

Question is....what fins are the regulars using?

can you get away with a bog standard weed speed or are delta fins the way to go?

if delta is the answer...does anyone have a spare one laying around they'd like to sell?

Hi,

I recently bought a MUF Delta fin second hand from Seabreeze. I've used it once when powered up. I think its a 19cm freeride version.

Its different to a normal fin. I quite liked using it except when the water gets a bit choppy. It spins out quite a lot for me in choppy water. Other than that I liked it. When getting quite powered up on my 5.5m the fin was feeling great. I had an enjoyable day of windsurfing with it.

Down at Primbee the water wouldn't get too choppy no matter how strong the wind is so it should be a good choice there.

I've just started running a MUF Delta Speed 19 on a 80l falcon with predominately a 6.6m sail, on Lake Illawarra. Unfortunately I've never tried a bog-standard-weed-speed so can't give you a comparison. However anecdotally I'd agree with Mobydisc - great in the flat, prone to spinout in the chop, and quite impressive for upwind angles attainable. The 19cm depth and extreme rake are really important to me - absolutely minimising the risk of a high speed, shallow water crash. Kiddies need their daddy home in one piece!! I reckon the confidence in not snagging anything is worth a few knots!!

Thanks guys.

Keef I think i'll take you up on that offer, I'll send you a message when I get the chance to flee Canberra for a day...see what you're up to. You'll be pleased to know that i've also picked up a piece of Kiwi crap (CA119) in my travels so you must be influencing me a little....i'm still a speed seeker at heart though.
