Solid sails are said to be way more efficient. The requirement to keep the flipping function is probably the big engineering obstacle. I'm surprised speed sailors, having gone the first step with asymmetric fins, still tolerate the constraints of flippable sails and symmetric boards.

It's Andrea Baldini who is testing the sail for Challenger Sails. What you see here is in essence an 'addon' for your ordinary sail to make it an asymmetrical one. I have a hard time describing it, but it's basically a 'bag' that you can pull over your existing sail, at least that's what I read somewhere else a while ago.

Said to be...but not so. Going deep needs a lot of camber on the leading edge otherwise you get stall at large angles of attack. The camber line of a sail is the mid point between the windward and leeward surfaces. Therefore with large pockets there is less camber.

This is why narrower pocket KA Koncepts are so good at Sandy Point. Reaching back and forth or going upwind is another matter. There the slippier the better.

It must weigh a tonne. The gloves would come in handy for the haemorrhoid cream after the stress of getting it out of the water.
