Just wanted to chuck it out there how unreal our LG "vacation" was
Had some awesome sailing (6 out of 8 days, the non sailing days were welcome), met a great bunch of crew and got to experience a truly sweet spot. 4 of us Roaches made the trek, met up with our NSW brothers from Illawarra and DD's then met sailors from SA, QLD and WA. All loving the LG experience, sailing during the day and either hitting the Beachport pub (great meals but strange names for beer sizes) or enjoying BBQ's and beers right next to our cabin on "Millionaires Row" at the caravan park
We all grabbed a swag of pb's and it was really pleasing to see everyone grinning from ear to ear. Heaps of characters as usual and some real nice people. Plus it was nice to sit back and let Rexy do all the driving, as usual a pleasure mate.
See you all next year.

sounds like a top trip Larko. What route did you take from Sydney to George, and how long in driving time? hoping to make the trip in MArch

Yes it's a great place and not just for windsurfing, only 11.5 months before I can go again ! From Sydney I stopped in Bendigo: about 8 hrs drive, then the following day it's about 6 hrs to get there, so you can sail in the afternoon. On the way back I did it all in one go: about 15 hrs including several short stops. The drive is pleasant but can be pretty hot in Victoria.

Did it the exactly the same both ways - The 15hr return trip is a doozy. Funny how your mind works, you get to Albury and think "hey I'm almost home, may as well keep going". Mixing it in with some short stops helps a lot.

It's a horrible smelly place with nowhere to lauch from. It's freezing cold, there are feral kids roaming the streets at night just looking for windsurfing kit to steal and trash. The locals are rude and inhospitable. If I was anyone out there contemplating a trip there I would say don't do it, EVER! Never go there, go somewhere else. Anywhere but Lake George. Nothing to see there, move along, move along.....

You forgot the duck hunters, letting off both barrels, any time you get close to their hide.

Hey Rexy, you forgot that it is mostly windless and when it blows its is really gusty & shifty. Oh , also the local marine life bites real nasty. It is definitely a place you want to miss.........!!

Our trip to Lake George was a great windsurfing holiday and something we really needed. Jimbob is a wonderful host, very generous with his time and to share some of the joy of living around the Limestone Coast. There are a few issues visitors need to be mindful of. Firstly bring warm clothes. If the seabreeze picks up and blows into the night, it will cool down at Beachport even in summer when its 40 degrees in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Secondly there are snakes in the area, no question or doubt about this. We had a close encounter with an aggressive snake, most probably a tiger snake. It moved fast towards us and raised its head, threatening to strike. I spotted it moving towards my wife, it being between myself and her. She had her back to it, photographing the lake. When I called out to warn her, the snake turned to me. We circled around it and then back to the van. It then moved into some longer grass nearby and I lost sight of it. Possibly we parked very close to its burrow and our movements disturbed it.

Finally be mindful of the sun. If you are in a warmer area you naturally move out of the sun as its too hot in the sun. However with the cool wind I tended not to seek shade, as a result getting a bit sunburnt.

Highlights include Jimbob's 4WD adventures around the dunes, beaches and tracks in his little Rav4. The sailing on the lake was great, especially the first couple of days fully powered up on a 4.5m sail. Meeting different windsurfers from Victoria, South Australia, NSW, WA and Queensland as well as seeing familiar faces was great too. Our little cabin having the best view in Beachport was tops too. We really enjoyed travelling around South Australia afterwards. Especially interesting was the drive along the Princes Highway to Adelaide. Its a great area in Australia.

We have taken heaps of photos and video of the trip. I'll try and work out a way to get them out there.

You guys are laying it on so thick that you are going to have half of seabreeze looking at the forecast and heading there.

Unless of course it was really good, which means no one would want to go.
