Hi Guys, can someone help Tobias from Surf Magazine Germany please:

Hi Paul,

I hope you are doing well!

We are just preparing a special "Travel Issue", where we - among other things - would like to put up a big gallery with special spots from all over the world. We have heard and seen videos of Lake George in South Australia, where the water is completely glassy even when its windy, and are now looking for some good pictures from there. Do you maybe have pictures yourself or could recommend someone who might have?

Thanks and best regards,

Tobias Frauen

If you can help him please email - T.Frauen@surf-magazin.de

I've got lots of shots, but all from a distance and too blurry.

But I do love this one. It demonstrates the laminar flow over the glass, turning turbulent when wind is interrupted by this sail

Unless somebody's been standing out in the run with a waterproof camera.

Photos are difficult, given the distance from shore to the sailing areas. Drone and GoPro videos are your best bet. In recent years, the best videos have been taken by Phils Travel and Adventures, and Glenn Young. Browse through their respective YouTube channels, @uhaggar and @philstravels. Select videos and click most popular to refine search. Contact Phil and Glenn direct for HD stills from their videos.

The following photos are stills from one of Phil's videos from Feb 2023 during a dawn session in 12 to 15 kts. I'm riding a 115 litre board with a 7.7 sail. Conditions were surreal. You could not see the wind on the water. It was one of my most memorable sessions ever.

I'm sure that Darren Diseren and Andrew Haig' wife Nic will have quite a few high res pics as I have a few of theirs.

That last photo is absolutely epic, insane! Definitely send it in, even in low res it's very unique. That is, if you don't mind a magazine monetizing on it...

I've sent the photos to Tobias and provided him the photographer's (Phil Knot) contact details.

Not sure if anyone has yet but if it's a travel article, it would be worth letting the writer know the lake conditions are not currently like these photos from 2-3 years ago. I met someone from Germany at Primbee a couple of weeks ago who'd come after seeing Paul's videos from a few years back when it was flat weedie sailing conditions, he was very disappointed to arrive and find it's no longer like that

Dezza, this is what I wrote to Tobias

"Lake George is a truly iconic windsurfing destination. Depending on the condition of the lake, from December to March, the combination of lake water depth, weed growth and prevailing SSE winds create unique GPS windsurfing conditions and attract GPS windsurfers from all over Australia. On a good year the lake can be visited by up to 80 windsurfers during the most popular month of February. Even during the last 3 years when conditions have been significantly less than perfect, good flat water can be found somewhere on the lake."

Honourable mention for the lake... it held the Guinness record for distance-windsurfing, with quite a few of us doing over 500km in an single day of sailable conditions.

Lake George was also the first place 40 Knot Nautical Miles (Tony Wynhoven and Craig Spottiswood) were sailed, windsurfing, with GPS in 2012, and the first place that a 30 Knot 1 Hour (Brad Anderson) was sailed, windsurfing, with GPS. Brads 1 hr done in 2013 is still the worlds fastest! ?

Great shot there John.
I've only seen it on bad years and think it's good
I hope some water comes back.
Maybe Tobis could use good mud slop shots from this year, runs up onto dry bank, face plants or anything showing the distance of mudwalk might be interesting.

I wondered what that muddy hook was there for a second.
Now there's the real Golden lake, Mecca. Can be a harsh place.

I don't think "luck" was involved, that was just supreme excellence winning out
