I could see already on our beaches kiters pumping their kites and we our boards.

How convenient.

We could then roll back and fit into backpack whole board.

Not sure if somebody did inflatable masts already ? then sail without batten or inflated battens ?

In fact I could envision sail without the mast. If we will be able to inflate whole pocket in race sails that should provided some rigid support.

Definitely do- able for Sunday recreational windsurfers.

That would certainly make taking a quiver of boards to Luderitz a lot easier!

I remember me and you talking about pneumatic boards at Burrum. Somebody must have been listening / spying and here is result If that was you Matthews ?

Theoretically pneumatic board could be one day much quicker that traditional.

Lets compare flat/soft tire to well pumped. Compressed air will spring back all absorbed energy on the bumps.
Soft will absorb and never give back.

Even better if one day somebody comes with "polarized skin" that will sail/flow one direction smoothly and resist back.
Then all vertical movements and vibrations could be transferred into forward propulsion ....like micro flippers.

One observe that we will avoid then stagnation layer and restore laminar flow from turbulent at high speed.

Simply by vibrating micro fibers facing backwards...

A good idea to automate it, but I reckon experienced sailors do it without knowing it. Burn energy in your leg muscles to impart forward motion. Suck up the front of chop and push down on the backside.

So it seems there are just two protos at the moment but if John get to 40 then I guess RRD will be keen to put it into production.

Seen it touched it , hope to play with this week....the website is great, product is as good in the flesh (aside from the fins)
hopefully will get some decent time on it and do a review..won't be sailing this one as the sailing model is yet to arrive here in Aust.

The man behind the product has the runs on the board in product developement....all the info is on the website...
My tip...this will become the normal with inflatable tech....until someone works out how to get two hard sections folded, with air on top and enough centre support to stop a fold!

The video's on the website are real to...local Sunny coast crew feature...the sexy sup Suziki girls and Mike Walker smashing some serious swell off Moffat beach....I wouldn't be purchasing an inflatable until you look at one of these, on the beach it looks to be a game changer...looking forward to getting on board.

Why inflatable and deflatable?
Why not just two piece boards, each piece 4' long? Your MAST is still going to be longer than that even a 5 piece. And you sail is the length of the longest batten....so get SuperFreaks.

already been done years ago

Already been TRIED year's ago, never close to perfected, as the joints would flex, wear out, and become useless after 20 outings.
Inflatable's have been around for decades, are heavy, need pumping, subject to wear, and can't take the loads of a hard board.
Who needs a inflatable/deflatable board that rolls up to a small package, when the sail, mast, and boom are 4 times longer in length?>

I think you need to have another look at the pic ... the rig is also blow-up.

The blowup rig is another setup entirely, one for beginners only.
The original speed inflatable is for use with normal windsurfing speed rigs.

Been annoying Decrepit about this idea for ages. He seemed unimpressed, perhaps aware that I never usually get past the thought bubble stage. . I knew if I procrastinated long enough someone with ability to take ideas and develop them would work it out. It seems so logical.

And I'm still not convinced, could be handy for flights though, it's not so likely to get destroyed by baggage handlers. And I'm happy with the solid boards I make, there's no way I'd want to make a blow up.

Don't forget what the missus, Fangy etc would say.

The SUP idea is perfect for flying, traveling to Indo dragging a 9'6" Sup isn't my idea of fun and not on a M Bike either

Then again, you could always go with a 7' 6" SUP!

Not going to go too fast with a planning surface like that ...mine looks way better (in my mind)
