Great day was had by all. Around 20 rocked up. BBQ - the little GEM was a firing up a beauty.

Wind dialled in to 18 kts mid afternoon for a real fun session on the speed strip. Could slingshot onto it with a nice broad run down the bank with a mid tide so you could run through the hump down the end. A few tried to get through before the tide was high enough and did some spectacular falls. Mick and Craig come to mind
Great to see the beginners out there giving it a go and see our advancing beginners get into the GPS and posting high tens to low 20s. Well done Belinda and Ian
It was great to see Craig and Colin Smokin on the Water - mid to high 30 kts Pity Dan did not have a GPS as I reckon he would have been up there also. I think Kato's run of 37 kts must be a record for the Inlet. Something for us all to aim for

It could have been worse Salty,I could have shown the rest, but that will be in the deleted scenes with comments . I think John has a 38kt on that strip,but a 40peak and miss the sandbar at the end might be just possible. Something to aim for one day. Dan had some nice smooth jybe,just needs to let go a bit earlier and he,ll nail them. A great start to the season the last shot just sumed it up, "Happy and stuffed"

Awesome video Kato. Great to see old salty at the end... We're equal as far as the inlet goes. Went back in the archives and found 37.1 knots was my peak on 1 Jan 09 on Freestyle Wave board. Must have been on the garmin that I remember 38 display or something. Lets share the crown for now and see who can get a 40 first somewhere on the inlet.

Allright...here's our summer challenge....to bookend our Brass Monkeys Winter Challenge, the IWC presents

"FIRST TO 40"

The Challenge: Who can hit 40 knots/and or the sandspit @ Inverloch by the end of summer???

For those who may be (ahem)"accelleration challenged" (ie those who are 30 kts or below), the challenge is to beat your peak on the Inlet by 20%.
For example, those with a 20 kt peak need to get to 24kts etc

FIRST TO 40 is open to IWC members and will commence 1 December and run all the way through Summer.

Most likely nothing!

I realise my post may have come off as being a bit negative - It's just, I'd hate to see anyone seriously hurt.

Just an idea but maybe some kind of gybing competition instead as there's a lot of us either wanting to learn or wanting to sharpen up our gybes ie. fastest alpha. Obviously wind speed would be a factor to calculate in. Just a thought.

I like this. First to 40 kts on the inlet is definitely doable. And if we mark out the arm of sand coming off the spit I can see no danger in it. Just need someone to test out the water depth first I am sure Evan will be up for it.
Serously the way the sand spit is operating at mid tide these days I cannot see a problem if we test the depth at the end beforehand.
At the Season Opener I was the first over it with the 38 cm fin at mid tide and that is when I got my 2 sec pb's with the water flat as a tack.
I like the 20% increase for those of us not up to Craig and John's level. That is 36 kts for most of us. Yeehaa Game on

Just a warning, the biggest fin i run in the CA 40 is a 23 and the Sl52 is a 30.....so follow at your own risk

IWC opener weekend I had a 26cm and could feel it just scrape through on a couple of runs mid to low tide. If you think the bottom of the run and mid way down are the only shallow sandbars Doug I'd suggest you have a better look

What a challenge!!!

I don't think I have any hope of hitting 40 knots on a beginner board but the increase is very acheivable.

So, where's summer????

Area 45 has a few runs over 37.1....
