Well, its been a week since I came a cropper and that week of my holidays has been spent mostly in doctors & specialists rooms.
After a hour long MRI (I fell asleep) I took my films to the northern beaches nicest windsurfing and SUP'ing orthopaedic surgeon and got the news confirmed.
Torn ACL, major soft tissue damage, possible small bone fracture, some internal bleeding into my calf and a foot and ankle that looks like the Michelin Man.
With all that my diagnosis is as follows:
R.I.C.E. swelling is going down, phew. Ive been doing lots of aquarobics.
Start physio Monday morning at Academy of Sport (mighty Eagles HQ Milsy!), lots of swimming and my new secret weapon (mostly to fight boredom & stop annoying the crap out of wife and daughter) paddling my SUP without the paddle = prone.
Re-assess in 3 weeks and POSSIBLY some light SUP'ing being very careful how I get on and off.
Trying to get out of an operation, thanks Rexy!!
So if you find a single crutch by the waters edge, please dont steal it!!!

So this is what I realised:
Ive been windsurfing long enough and have been to enough places to know better,
dont risk your wellbeing,
realise your partner and/or kids want you just as you are,
windsurfing people are the coolest,
they dont have todays "f*** you" attitude,
you dont heal as quick at 51 as you do at 25,
you are not bullet proof,
**** happens!!!
So big thanks to everyone, you know who you are, and please remember:
Windsurfing is the funnest sport in the world, appreciate it and dont lose sight of the fact that a bad windsurfing sesh is better than your best day at work.
Cheers,
Larko

Hey Grant, bad luck mate, at least you hurt yourself while doing something you enjoy. Sheesh, you could've tripped over and put your knee into a park bench, now that wouldn't be cool. You've done well to keep away from any op's, hope it heals faster than you expect.

Hang in there Grant - sounds like it could have been a lot worse - and yes - you make a very good point - we need to keep it all in perspective [family wise] whilst we strive to be our best!
