looks like the Pit Crew have the goods in top speed on GTC but the NM numbers aren't so hot, I'm wondering how long a run you get at the pit? Obviously enough to wind up and one way or the other, stop, but I'm guessing not a miles worth?

The longest run we can possibly get on the SW speed course is less than 1.5km (NM = 1.85km), and that is around a curved course where the angle of the wind changes through almost 90 degrees, so all our NM on this wind have a gybe in them which is quite a handicap.

It is just possible to get a NM on the 'Yanakie channel' in a NW wind and a very low tide. The window is quite small for tide and it involves starting 100m in a rough channel before the flat water and running out into the main channel (and chop) at the end for about 150m. The wind angle is critical as well so there are very few opportunities in a season to take a shot at this spot. I think I got one in last year, none so far this year.

The NM is definitely a problem for us at the PiT.

... and that is why the NM exists - to even out the playing field... and maybe even make us find another spot which is good for NM's...
