I see Bender has been modifying the leading edge of his fin at Hardies. I have been surprised at how lucky the sailors have been up til now. There are a lot of rocks there.

bender how's your fin box, i hit the reef on green island in july, smashed the back out of the fin box on my ca55 and pulled the front screw down about 3cm and split the casing, i had to cut some of the foot pads away to find the screw damage

Not as yet keef i quickly chucked the board in its cover in disgust after smashing my fin.

Good to see you do a good job at smashing your fin box, in the past i've hit 2 objects and nearly ripped the tuttle box out of the boards, other guys dont do any damage at all.

I have a video to put together which was taken by Crasher last year when we had a super low tide where the water was out to the makers

Might induce a bit of fear into there hearts of some SRM (probably not though)

Not great clarity in photo's bu most of the light brown stuff is flat limestone reef, you can see the outer reef stickin up

Hardie, anybody keen to take what Yoyo put up, then take what Hardie posted (last lot), and mark on the yoyo overview that shows shoreline, a section that most of the ugly points are located?

WHAT, you mean your not supposed to sail like that i better tell those kitesurfers right away

You really need to build up a composite photo of the danger areas as once you zoom out to see where you are the rocks disappear.
Best source is www.nearmap.com and use the 7 May 2009 photo as there is very little weed.

After we put the posts out, in that very low tide, I did a circuit of them with my GPS to produce this google earth image.




The rock Bender hit is further out from the 2 that are close together.

When we putthe posts in there where a few floating weed islands further out, I checked a couple of them without finding rocks under them, but I guess we just missed 1 (or more).
It's a bit hard to tell from yoyo's pics just how far out they are.
I'm not sure you can go by the weed patterns, thnk they change too much.

Steve, my previous photo shows the rock garden right at the very bottom edge of Mike's photo. Almost twice as far from the shore than the area he marked in yellow. Bender found one of these I suspect.

Looks like Bender was trying to create a new kind of fin, did it go any faster

The more time we spend there the more rocks we seem to find, the line I used to take around the posts before they were last moved is now in the middle of no mans land, and I know from experience that lane I used to run down was very narrow, I am starting to think I might leave my highest speed stuff to safety bay so I do not risk life and limb getting through the rock garden

dont worry you can go just as fast further upwind where the water is deep

The near map images are showing the brown weed not rocks.

That said

Yes there are rocks, lots of them, some seriously ugly looking.

Don't go through there on low to mid tides

Outside the markers I'm regularly fanging around on large fins 36-40cm and will only scrunge the flat rock bottom near the back markers when going slow.

Weed fins will generally "Bump Over" a rock (unless you are like hardy and hit a rock sticking out of the water. Pointers will do unspeakable things.

Mid to high tides 23-30cm fins can get through fairly well but you can still hit things.

If in doubt, don't go in there.

If you do and crash, try to fall flat.

There is other spots nearby which are flat on low to mid tides

The snot has rapidly built up this week which looks like it will block access to there for a fair while until we get a serious blow to clean it out

If you want to chance it, ask a local for advise on their call

After seeing that I think that it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt bad, dont want to be a stick in the mud but sail there only if the tide is right and conditions allow it, thats some serious sh1t if you are going fast, fall and land on a rock.

I wont be sailing there after seeing all that, it aint worth it.

Be fkn careful you lot!

Mintox, we keep telling the SRM guys that, but it doesn't make any difference, they still keep coming down here and blowing us away.
