How many degrees off the wind would Hans have been when recording the 51knots?

Amazing speeds coming out of West Kirby!... Well done to all who scored PB's.

A bit strange that its gone a bit silent here ... I thought this would have set the forums alight with the speedies over here?

Faaaaaaaaaaarrrrkkkkk!!!! I'm impressed. What a great drag strip too. We should request they lower the height of the Sydney airport runway, that should do it nicely.

I notice the speed police have not yet verified Thorpie's track - is there a problem with the track in Holland [with respect]??

There are a few tracks not verified yet, not just Steves. I have heard he did crash at 49knots on 1 run...I expect that hurt with all that weight.

Mate, we are just stunned! And very jealous.

Steve was wearing two GPS and they both had very different peak speeds on his best run. He submitted the tracks to GPSSS for analysis and I had the privilege of being part of the tech group that was consulted. Unfortunately, one of the GPS had some serious errors (Like a spike in the old language) and was not real. It was very clear in the satellite fix and SDOP data, not to mention the unrealistic sudden accelleration.
The second GPS appeared to be functioning normally and the data was clean so Steve has re-posted the data from that GPS.

It shows the value of wearing at least two GPS when PB's are in the wind!

Steve's effort was sensational and a huge credit to him, especially as he is 15-20 kgs down on many of the other guys (although 12KG's of lead?!! He must have good back and spend a lot of time in the gym)

The speeds reached by the others were amazing as well. For 3 guys to do over 50 knots peaks in one session is mind blowing! It was only a year ago that the 50 knots peaks club was very small indeed (3 guys?). The club has more than doubled since! Might have to put in an application to join myself.

Yeh truly amazing speeds, I', on the limit of my abilities physical and psychological at 40kts, and the difference beween 38/39kts and a 40kt run seems exponentially huge, 51kts OMG

Hey Andrew,
Was he using the same type of GPS?

Yes. Two GT-31's with latest firmware. There is a lot of 'static' in his tracks even though there were 9-10 satellites most of the time. Must have been the weather conditions?
His second best run was clean on both GPS and would probably be a UK 10 sec record if he claims it.

If I read it correct jacques vdh has done a 50.72 2sec today with a 47+ 5x10. Well done to all the guys on their amazing numbers and pb's. Looks like there maybe a bit of a break threw in the world of speed sailing in the last week or so. But let's not forget the efforts of the guys hitting 50's a few years back.

Sppeds have certainly gone up a notch, what will the average be to end up in the top ten of the GPS-SS rankings this year? And Jacques did his amazing speeds on a square course? How the hell do you do those sort of speeds running square?
