I guess that means I betta pack the sunscreen as there's no facility for a sausage sizzle.

Seriously, what is planned on the Sunday afternoon when I assume there'll be more than 12 sailors wanting to leave the island with their gear.

Yeh, I'd definitely be up to sailing back on the Sunday.

Might even get a chance to sail out and back before the week starts.

Ahh well. I just did a few sums. !!! Airfares, accommodation, gear freight, a week off work.....
Looks like my idea of taking the family for a tropical holiday is out the window....
I don't think I can justify going on my own so it's not looking likely for me now.

Just wondering if weed is likely to be an issue during speed week? Thanks

I've only sailed Green a few times but no real problems with weed. Only one day we had some clumps floating around.

None of us use weed fins.

The day Gaz saw weed was the first time in 15 years I have seen it at Green, and then only a few clumps which was easy to see and avoid

Thanks for that info - I don't have a weed fin and was just about to buy a new regular fin. Would have kicked myself if I'd arrived on a weed Island without a weedie!

Hey Cam, do you know if there will be anywhere to store gear on Green Island during the event? If travelling to and from the island each day, is it possible to leave gear on the island?

Also, wondering where Cape Grafton is? Would it be possible to put a Google image up of where it is in relation to GI?

Good to see guys get a sail up there the other day. Sounds a little warmer than down here in TAS!

Hi Dave-we've got approval to store gear in a fenced off area between Marineland Melanesia & the resort .Its around 150m from the main sailing entry point on the NE of the island
Weed fins not needed for weed but give the added bonus of being able to sail the Eastern Run in less water -for those who dare !!
Registration on line available now so take advantage of this .

Hi sausage-sun shining,Northern Speed strip stunning ,crap wind unfortunately .
Best time today was ~33knots by the speed demon himself Chris Lockwood in 15-18 knots .
Open Ocean Race will probably have to be cancelled looking at the forecast & considering the type of gear that the contestants have brought with them ...

FRI & SAT will be Scurfing days judging by current wind forecasts .

See you Thursday

Cam,

Thanks for a huge effort you have personally put in to make the speedweek happen mate. Also a big thanks for your family for putting up with this extreme effort haha.

Thanks to all the sponsers and the all the guys that came up for the event.

Its a shame mother nature decided not to turn it on for the event but from the conversations i had with the guys i met on green island, they still enjoyed the event. Can't go wrong on a tropical island

Looks like Thursday, Friday next week will be on. Hope to see you there.

Many thanks again Cam for a top job

Rowdy
