Michael Healy-sales & marketing manager for Quicksilver confirmed yesterday that all Speed week participants will have access to local rates for the Mainland Green Island marine transfers AND should they wish to stay at GREEN IS resort locals rates apply as well .This is a generous deal so PLEASE take advantage of it if you are planning on attending speed week from June 21-28 2009.
At booking time simply notify the staff that you are part of Speed week & the rate (which is inclusive of transfers & breakfast ) of $299 per night will apply.

Competitors please note-the tides later in the week are low late in the afternoon -the last boat to leave the island for the mainland leaves at 430pm so some of the best sailing will be had later in the afternoon.

Haggar-the resort has different styled rooms -up to 4 is the answer in the standard suite with a divan in use(is that the right spelling??)There is usually a nominal extra fee for more than 2 adults ...
The resort breakfast is fantastic -can sail the whole day on it !!

Tim I might be interested in joining a WA possie...depends how the costs stack up.

If you decide to go let me know, I would want to share a room if I went ($300/nite is a bit exy, but $150/nite is doable).

Also need to suss out airfares and ability to fly with kit etc.

i spent 3 months workn on the cruise ships that go to green island, fitzroy island and the outer reef potoons.. was a long time ago and dont remember seeing any speed sailing on green island, but i guess it was summer, what side of the island is the course?.. and how reliable are the winds in June? and whats the turtle situation like?

No wind in FNQ in summer unless there is a cyclone around

Wind is very reliable in June as it's smack in the middle of the windy season and because Green is off shore there is nothing to stop the wind. Depending on the tide there are several spots around Green to sail. Cam has picked the dates when the tide is very low, what happens then is the water is below reef level so it's like sailing next to a sand bar I guess with the resulting flat water. At high tide it can be very choppy, but not that week

Were you windsurfing then, any other time of year we would have caught up, cheers.

lets see i just turned 18 that was mid 90's so yeah i'd been strugling on wave gear for about 2 years by that stage... wont be able to make it this year but hope to all goes well

Unbelievably, the 7 different govt bodies that I
am currently dealing with have not yet finalised the permits-I am not expecting any major hiccups but will update you all in a week or so .
The greenisalndspeedweek.com web site should be up & running by then.

Gps format sailing -prizes for best 2sec peak 5x10 sec averages best 500m time
best girl & best junior as well as prizes for open ocean race winner & overall sailor of the meet.
Prizes include accomodation for a week for a couple in Ramat lodge Japan & $3500 worth of windsurfing retail vouchers.
Accomodation on Island is still available but filling fast .Still lots of room at home ..

So for newbs just divide by 2 and round up :)

Wow that looks wild.........i can really see the effects of too much rum drinking....those sail numbers must have been made during a good session

He's not allowed to drink rum anymore, something to do with dancing naked on tables and smacking his own arse, but keep that to yourself

He clocked just over 36 knots in that photo, only had a couple of runs on Cam's board and then switch to his wave gear.

I'll get back to you Choco re GI SW as soon as my computer is fixed (parts coming) I only have random use of another PC

the thought of green island gets me through winter. sunny skies, crystal clear water and green arrows as far as the models can stretch.

i reckon it's on of the windiest places around for a winter get away.

it just blows all day every day.





the graph above doesn't really do it justice as the table points out. if the graph showed daily max wind speed it would read a lot higher.
