I was thinking of purchasing a gps watch maybe Garmin, so what are the most popular models to purchase ?

Garmins pretty good and is supported with a great windsurfing app. No good for gps team challenge stuff.

Am I correct in assuming that there are no team GPS watches anymore.?
Have I got the last one that is still working??? With matching charger cable.

If you do a search on here you'll find discussions on the best garmins, here's the last list I could find posted April 24. There's a Garmin app tbwonder developed for speed sailing, and these models listed below can use it, or there's other speed or sailing apps for Garmin. It's worth a read through the old Garmin threads and discussions but this list should get you started

Keep an eye on the Garmin site fore sale deals, I got my 745 at half price. Larger screen and solar powered will be what I upgrade to sometime. Marketplace have cheaper ones all the time if you're happy to get second wrist. TBs app written for our sport and not genetically for any sport. It's great.

I wouldn't waste my money on solar Garmin upgrades again. The difference in battery lifetime is very small and in my case it doesn't even work half the time. Have to restart the watch otherwise solar is disabled. I think it happens if the watch is indoors for a while and then solar is just not enabled anymore, even in the bright sun. It only works after a restart in that case, quite terrible.

Got a Fenix 7 Pro Solar (discounted $200 at the Garmin store), could not be happier. It can do a ridiculous amount of stuff. The windsurf app is nice, identifying runs (between tack/jibe) 2", 10" and max speed, and keeping track of vitals. The Windsurfing app by VIVsurfer is more detailed, and includes 100, 250, 500 and alpha. Battery life on the Fenix is great (I go 14 days with daily use of GPS). I would stay away from the AMOLED screens, they do burn more battery.

I have the 965 which has the large OLED display. I have it set to always on mode except for possible sleep hours (10-9). It lasts well over a week with daily GPS of 30-60 minutes. Not as much as some, but still very good. The display is beautiful and much more readable for my aging eyes. I do several swim sessions a week in an indoor pool that can be quite dark. I was struggling to read the watch for my laps with the old display type even with backlighting on full. With the OLED display it is no issue. The contrast and brightness are so much better.

I've not used it much for windsurfing, but it seemed to work great when I did. The display is very readable, and GPS seems better than my older Garmin watches. It is definately more accurate for cycling which I use it more for... not that it matters... I just get nicer tracks to look at on Strava on the map that more faithfully follow the route I took.
