Thanks for the ideas guys. the small files were from after I turned on LOG SWITCH.
Decrepit, are there two places where you have to turn LOG SWITCH = ON? I just changed it in Data Logger menu.
Cheers
James
Sure is, data logger is just the internal memory, it's much better if the device records directly to the SD card.
After "Data logger" in the scroll menu, is "Memory Card" Select that, and you have the following menu.
Log Switch, should be set to "on" or "on-fix" (there's different opinions on this one, but on means the card records all the time, on-fix means it only records when it has a satellite "fix")
Min Speed, set to "off" or a very low value, probably no more than 5kts. Again different opinions on this one, Off means always recording, a speed value set, is the speed above which it starts recording
NMEA items, set to "SBN 1sec"
File Size set to "card size". This is often set to a specific value, which means once that size is reached a new file is started, then you have to stuff around joining files up.
With the above set up you should see a .sbn file on the card after each session, you shouldn't need to save the data logger to the card.
The main advantage of doing it this way is when you have a long session, I think the max the internal data logger can hold is about 7hrs, whereas the memory card will keep going until the battery runs out.
