Hi All

I am setting up a GT31 for a friend and the calendar shows 15th Feb 2009.

I set it to March 2012 and hit the big button. It then displays today. I hit the big button again and then it jumps back to 15 Feb 2009. I would have thought you could adjust the year then the month (no problems here) but then the day (which i can't do), & then push the big button to set it as today.

His battery may have been flat for quite a while (and I am charging it up now) and does it lose track of the date if it is left flat for some time

I have looked at page 51 on the owners manual but had no luck there.

http://mannlib.cornell.edu/files/documents/GT_31_Owners_Manual.pdf

I would assume that you need an up to date calendar in order for you to identify the correct file on the card when uploading.
Can anyone help me get it to todays date

Thanks

G'Day Jeff,
I have an idea that the calenda is there for your use, not part of set up.
If it's been off for a long time and battery gone flat, it may have reverted to initial default.
Try doing a "cold start" when you have a charged battery and satellite reception, I suspect that will fix it.

Looks like the GT31 doesn't have a "cold start". here's the initialisation process from the manual.

2) Initialize the receiver. Leave the GT-31outside with
a clear view of sky until it gets position fix. After
that, it needs only around 45 seconds to find its
location. When the unit has not been used for long
time or it's taken to a far distance from where you
initialized it, you will need to re-initialize the unit
before use.

Hey Jeffro,

A major part of the GPS signal is the current time. Really, super accurate time.

So much so that many devices have a GPS unit built in just so that they can tell the time, wherever they are (I know that some ATMs do this).

So the short answer is to let it boot up outside for 5 minutes, and it will then know what the current time is.

Jeffro, my GT31 has had the same problem since late last year. Running the latest firmware. The file names on the memory card all show 20090215 datestamp etc but when I upload to KA72.com it has the right date on the data.

I tried to manually set the date but gave up. Now I have set up an "archive" folder on the memory card and move the files from GPS_DATA across after downloading them. That way I know which is the latest data file.

Would be interested to hear if anyone knows a fix. Mine also sometimes takes 20 seconds to start up and move off the LOCOSYS flashing screen - a lot slower than some others I have seen. Any ideas?

cheers
james

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the responses. As Mike & Neb said, I just switched it on and checked it after a few minutes. The calendar showed todays date (19 March 2012).

Not sure why it showed the 15 Feb 2009. Must have been defaulting to it. It was on version 1.2 before I upgrade the firmware and adjusted all the settings as per Tom Chalko.

James, My mate did not have an SD card in it prior to me getting the date set right, so not sure what the files on an SD card would have read.

Dave, all fixed up now so no need to go any further the Mike & Neb

Cheers
Jeff

James sounds like a bug to me, the unit isn't fully initialising. I'd email the problem to locosys and see what they say.

Thanks Mike, yes I'll send off an email. Have tried reloading the firmware etc a few times with same results. I have been dealing with it as it seems to be logging speeds etc OK.

Although maybe it does have a bug and thats why it won't read more than 31 knots!
