As you all now know I have a new toy
Apart from the speed functions does anyone use the track, waypoint and position mark functions? and for what purpose?
Any other tricks on the machine worth playing with?

Just a note - just because I have a GPS does not mean I can go fast. It is to check how SLOW I am going, so do not feel good if you drag past me.

There is one huge problem with having a GPS. It makes you want to buy more gear to go faster . Bigger sails, faster boards, more fins, more sails, more boards.... it never ends!

And personally I never use any of the other functions. Just load the data into real speed and thats it. Sometimes look at all the pretty lines on Google Earth too

You can mark waypoints at your gybe-buoys so that you can then load them into you favourite analysis program!

You can also use your odometer to tell you roughly how far you have gone - which is particularly useful when you are in the team-challenge.

And if you like the snow, you can use realspeed to load up your altitude, relative to your speed.

If you are going to use the GPS only for sailing, position marking is probably not of any interest.

But, if you ever want to return to a particular spot, say, because you have accommodation in a foreign city, or, are bushwalking and you want to return to your vehicle, the GPS will guide you there. Literally, it will tell you "where to go". I have used it in both these capacities.

Further, I have stored my house as "home", and changed the default point name to that. My thinking is that, should I lose the GPS, and it is found by a kindly and honest person (ie any Seabreeze member), he /she will return it. This last theory has, thankfully, never been tested.
