This new little gadget looks easier to lug around than a laptop while travelling and seems to do most things but...

Does anyone know whether Realspeed or GPSAR etc. would or could run on it?

It has an SD card reader attachment so that part is easy.

a netbook would work better, for cheaper, and really isn't appreciably larger.

I've just started using a netbook for travel instead of the laptop. It's basic but runs realspeed and photoshop and a lot cheaper at under $400.
Also doesn't have any hassles with what programs you can run.

The lack of USB or card reader ports on the iPad would make it difficult to input data from a GPS. The iPad, besides having a naff name is one hyped up gadget. Better to wait for the V2 or get a proper laptop/netbook.

You would have to find out if the 'apps' you want to use are approved by Apple (ie they get their cut).

The iPad doesn't look too tough and early indications seem to indicate its anything but ruggerdised.

i'd get the asus T91MT which is $650 in australia and comes with proper pc features but apparently requires you to tweak the touch controls.

that said i'm wait till round 2 of releases after ssd drives come down in price and cpu get more powerfull.

I just don't understand the hype about apple stuff.... I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I don't even have the quick time virus on my PC.

no. thou they could possibly in the future if someone creates an app for the ipad for them, but i wouldn't hold my breath for that.

however if you can get the files onto the ipad via sd card reader you could probably upload them to that ka72 website.

think of it this way, the ipad is just an iphone with a bigger screen (runs basically the same operating system). its funny what a bit of media/marketting hype can do to what people think a new device can do.

the ipad has an external card reader/camera reader (bought seperately).

the jury is out as to whether you can transfer/read files other than image or movie files and most likely movie files will only include mac movies.

as swoosh has said, it is an iphone os. if you can find an app that allows you to do what you want to do on the iphone then you will more than likely suceed.

If you get a netbook with Nvidia ION graphics acceleration, such as HP Mini 311 and you can plan hi def movies, bluray ripped films, YouTube HD videos etc too. many lower end netbooks cant handle this. Good for long plane journeys, as battery life is longer than many laptops. Also has inbuilt card reader...

An iPad can't even display flash...same limitation with iPhone. I don't know why anyone would want one.

Im sure that KA72 will work on an iPAD.

what if you rename your files to .jpg,

then try to get the ipad to recognise it and upload.

then rename it back to it's original format when in the ipad

then upload it to ka72 webpage.

Would be a lot more useful with 3g capability and sync with your phone.

^ my mobile phone cost me $25 from kmart and i've never had a problem. of course it doesn't sync,

the other brand $800 phone that did everything but make me coffee broke after 13 months 1 month out of waranty. i like my $25 phone very much.
