Do you just strap it on let it run then load all the info on your computer?

Or do you check your wrist and get live updates as you are going?

Could possibly be looking at one for sailing ... tracking around the course getting speeds etc.

Like any other question the answer is "it depends"

Some gather the trackpoints so you can upload the track to a computer afterwards. These include Garmin 101, 201 etc. They also show "live" info on the screen. The Navi uses a sd card so you can record many hours of track.

Some dont, they just read your speeds etc.

They need to be set up correctly, positioned with good exposure to the sky, and dont forget you need to consider buying a waterproof unit, or an aquapac to keep it dry.

I just strap it on and sail, set and forget, I'm a blind old b*stard and can't see the screen anyway. I have a look when I get out, it's either yippy or poop .
When I get home I load my data into the computer and use a program called RealSpeed to get all the interesting info. If you have a look at the GPS Team Challenge site, you can get an idea of that info. You can also drag your file into Google Earth, and it'll show all your tracks, also interesting.

firiebob maybe i can make you a pack with opthalmic vinyl for easier viewing but wait a minute to most of you gps-speedsters do you really take a quick look while sailing all out..

hi mikey did try a couple of times but nearly splaat so now just go and forget like bob does...i just go for time, ave. speed so i can concentrate on just doin' figure 8's

There's no way I can look at the GPS when going for it downwind, but I can glance at it on the run back upwind, but most of the time, that's not enough to read anything properly, "even with the navi's big numbers".

one of these days there'd be a heads up display on our sails just like in diving there's a company that developed one for there masks...

I wear a gath helmet with drop down visor, would be very nice to have speed projected on that.
