Today my card failed to record the session onto it, it said unknown card. Its the second time its done this so i think im going to get a new card. Does anyone know how to get the session of the gps, do i use Navi link or what, Please help. Thanks

On your Navit GT-11 or 31, toggle to Data Logger, then use the "save to card" function, will save all data on your gps to a file then. Then its a matter of separating the session you want from other sessions.

If your gps has data logging set up you can download the data using Navilink.

You need to make sure the com port is right for the USB or blutooth connection and then you put the navi into Navlink, I think, mode. From there you can download the data log to the folder of your choice. The card reader on my GT-11 is stuffed so this is how I get the data off it. It takes a bit of mucking around first time but it's doable.

This has happened twice now is it my GPS or card that is causing this do you think? i have tried reformating the card and i thought this fixed it but, clearly not. Should i just throw the card and try a new one or reformat it and try again? when the GPS started up instead of saying "card found" it said "card unknown". Thoughts?

Try another card first.

There are known card issues with the GTs, somewhere there's a list of compatable cards.
From memory, it's a voltage issue.

Voltage issue? as in the GPS, does this mean its on its way out? Its only 2.5 years old, they should have a longer life span than that surely....

No, there's a compatability problem beween required card voltage and the GTs (I think). From memory high voltage cards are the ones causing the problems.

I know "sandisk" 1 & 2 gb cards are OK cause that's what I use.
If your card has worked OK for a while, maybe it's just on the dge of compatability. That's why I suggest looking at the list.

I have had that card in it since new and it is a Sandisk 2Gb, i have got another card and i'll see how it goes.... cheers

Chances are it's the pins that contact the card losing their tension. This happened to me.

You can try jamming the card in a bit further with something small and pointy, this means that the pins have a bit more of a chance to touch the card contacts. This worked for a while.

You can also try pulling your navi apart, carefully bending the pins one at a time so they have more tension on them, and losing your card reading capability completely. This happened to me also

Nebs, how hard does it look to replace the card socket?

Its probably easier just to work out how to use the Navlink mode, a cable and the Navlink application, unless you don't have access to a Windows computer.

I've been using the Navlink mode to transfer data for the last year. I thought I'd have to buy a new GPS when it no longer wrote data to the card but using this method keeps the old thing going. I purchased it in 2008 so if it keeps going for another year or so I'll be happy.

I seriously considered it... but it's beyond my skill / patience level. It seems almost impossible to get a soldering iron and solder sucker down to the pins of the card reader assembly.
