This was working previously. When i try to download the GPS tracks(ie. GPS/download tracks) it gets about half way then freezes. It won't let me compute speed statistics for the half of the data it did download.

Any suggestions

Hmm on here for almost 2 1/2 hrs 20 views and no answers, could be like me the other 19 are a bit puzzled.
What's this "AR" you mention? is that the type of GPS?

I think most of us just plug the SD card into the computer and read from that.

What exactly are you doing?
That may give some of the IT experts something to go on.

The software is GPS Action Replay (AR) and I'm using a fortrex 101, so down load by cable. Windows XP

Normally I go into the GPS menu and select download tracks, and normally all is fine. But now it get's half way through and stops. A couple of times windows came back with a fatal error as a result, then had to reboot my PC.

I might try deleting and re installing the program, it may be corrupted?

Hey Des, I've had a similar problem. I fixed it by buying a Navi GT31

Now that we've finished the debate does anyone have any useful suggestions.

And yes I like the fortrex - compact, big display and I can change functions while sailing.

Too wet ??

Could you install the application on another computer and see how it goes? Try to troubleshoot the problem by eliminating variables. A new installation, a different port, a different cable, a different computer, reinstalling your O/S, a different GPS. Go from the easiest variables to eliminate as a problem to the hardest ones.

The good news is that it's allowed me to break the world speed record.

I managed to download a the tracks and one set of speed computations were all zeros and the next were:
5 bests' average = 83.25km/h [44.95Knots]

Best Speed n°1 = 144.98km/h [78.28Knots] (80.5 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°2 = 90.71km/h [48.98Knots] (50.4 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°3 = 61.29km/h [33.09Knots] (34.1 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°4 = 59.63km/h [32.2Knots] (33.1 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°5 = 59.63km/h [32.2Knots] (33.1 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°6 = 59.63km/h [32.2Knots] (33.1 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°7 = 59.4km/h [32.07Knots] (33.0 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°8 = 59.4km/h [32.07Knots] (33.0 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°9 = 59.4km/h [32.07Knots] (33.0 meters in 2.0 sec.)
Best Speed n°10 = 58.81km/h [31.75Knots] (32.7 meters in 2.0 sec.)

Speeds 3 - 10 were representative of what I was getting on the display. Could the foretrex be screwed up, maybe that needs a major reset.

Is there a hard reset or the option of pulling the battery out for a while? Other than that perhaps reloading the firmware will fix it. Goodluck Des.

I'm not at all sure of my ground here, but I suspect stray cosmic rays (or something) can corrupt flash memories, had it happen on a camera, reformatted the card and it now seems OK. You may find, if you delete present data it may be ok. But go for several test runs on your bike or something before relying on in the water.
