Just brought a GT-31 GPS new from Wind Wanderers club on Sunshine Coast Qld. Already set up for windsurfing courtesy Dylan (ka72.com). Wow this is the best way to go. I just turned it on and powered up. Then away I went. Loaded directly into ka72.com without any problems. I think this service is excellent - well from all the issues being raised on this forum.

So what did I do - just 25 kts and 22kms. Now I'm thinking of excuses, old sail, rough and choppy conditions, light weight, etc etc. So I have heaps to improve upon. Think I have the bug. Unfortunately I am off on 3 weeks holiday from Monday so no sailing, will be itching to get back to it to improve technique.

Hi Greg, I am slow learner but have my GPS matters sorted. I hope we could see and compare all our results from QLD soon on KA72 .
I am also surprised by hard evidence. When you think you are going really , really fast the results are still miseareble.
For me the next step will be to crack 30 kts barrier one day
There are few more already that catch that GPS bug .

But now we have right tool to improve our self, experiment with sails and fins etc

Ahh I remember my first GPS session...full of denial...couldn't believe that I wasn't going over 25kts when the sail was trying to wrestle free out of my grip lol. Welcome to GPS Speedsailing!

We are waiting for our Captain to get his GPS . As you could see we all (GPS) newbies .
I hope that Tilldark - proposed leader - will be ready soon.
Then we welcome all to join us here on Gold Coast.

I could see few people here to deserve be captain but I am afraid to ask
I would like to see somebody like Haircut - absolutely popular, skilled sailor, the person you could definitely relay on to be on the water in the worst (best) weather

Yep I agree we all think we are going faster than we actually are!!! Its good to have a target ie. 30kts so we can test different sail, board, fin combinations and probably more than that our technique.
Not looking at GPSTC yet until I work out this GPS stuff better.
Re GSPTC how often do you need to sail or doesn't that matter?? Do you need to be a faster sailor, ie. better than 30kts?? ie. whats the point of having a slow sailor in the team?

In the GPSTC there is no need to sail frequently or to be a top sailor. And no, you don't need to be better than 30 knots, you just need to be trying! (Some of us take a very long time to get there! )
It's all about having fun, connecting to other people, having sailing buddies, getting support and encouragement and pushing yourself to improve.
Because only the top two speeds in a session count, being slower doesn't detract from the team at all.
Enthusiasm is all that is required.

Windxtasy is absolutely right. I was concerned about joining because I did not want to disadvantage a team by being slow. In fact I have been often told just having other team mates on the water at the same time encourages others to go for it enabling the fast sailors to post higher scores.
When there are sailors going for distance having any other sailor on the water is a huge boost no matter how quick they are or even if they are from your team.
The way the GPSTC is set up means that you cannot make the teams score worse, but it is great to have team mates and members of other teams encourage you, give tips and more. It is a community that encouraged me to sail more than ever before and therefore improve to levels I thought I would never reach!
I use the GPSTC so I can see how much I have sailed, what equipment I have used and how I am doing. This info is really easily downloaded so you can look at for yourself.

Yes Greg, there is absolutely no excuse not to join a team immediately, for all the reasons others have said. There may be a few clubs that have a hint of exclusivity about them, but most are more than welcoming to any new member.

Well with only 1 week to go looks like we have an Inverloch Windsurfing Club crew of 12 windsurfers and 4 non sailing partners coming up for a play. It will be a staggered arrival from Sunday through to Tuesday - did not want to scare the locals too much

gregwed its not about how fast you can go, it's the people you meet from gpschallenge and seabreeze, this weekend we have the inverloch guys coming for the week , last year there was 6 this year 12 plus 4 I think there the roadies there will be a few gustbusters that don't live locally making the trip to catch up , if your ever taking the trip south send me a PM

Greg, you would be welcome onto our team don't matter how fast you are we can get you up to speed but its all about fun & good to be in a team.

Like me.. It makes the fast guys feel better!
+ 1 for Windxtasy I was worried about joining and being slow but i really enjoy seeing what everyone else is up to and you can post pics of your session etc .. It make everything much more interesting..I ramble on as it's my record of a session..Here's an example - not much of a sail that day but good to get a few pics etc..

I'm definitely in and Curt as well. He's just got his GPS. Taking it out on Sunday, should be good.
