hi guys, just got a carbon art speed 40. Carbon art speed boards dont come with a fin so i was just wondering what fin you would reccomend for all-round use.

I use a KA Lockwood asymmetrical 20cm, i also have a KA Symmetrical 23cm, works really really well and never ever lets go though some of the worst chop both act as a great weed fin too.most guys that have used the 23cm would say the same thing.so the 23cm is the best all round fin.The C3 venoms are brilliant also.I have tried a 24 and 26cm and felt the same as the ka's plus cheaper.

i had a go on jets sp40, loved it and got my own one the next day, i think the boards are the exact same exept mine is silver and jets is white. i dont think i'll go with an assymetrical fin as i will be using at starboard and port tack spots. i'll probably go with somthing around 22-24. thanks for the info on what you use. i hope you get chance to finally break 40kts this year, i noticed that you came very very close. i'm going to try to get close to 40.

cool thought that might be the case,i still dont know whats going on i have had 40 on the dial three times and all have been done for a 1sec peak just need to hold it that little longer.Any way if you can get hold of one of Slowboats fins or one of the kA symmetrical's would be worth it as they are bloody quick fins, but are becoming rare.Great to have you chasing for the 40 as well, still there for the taking for first junior.

I was running a C3 slingshot 21 for the first time today which are symmetric and I think it would go well in my CA40.
A Ka symmetric 23 would be fantastic for rougher water for a bit more lift above the chop,but they appear to be unobtainable.

i'm pretty sure you can order Ka fins directly from the ka website, only thing is there $390 per f-ing fin

We have some assymetricals, I would need to check what sizes, but no 23 Symetricals, they are unobtainable at the moment. If all your speed sailing is starboard tack then an Assy is the go.

Looks like you will be in the 40 knot club soon.
The only real question is wether it will be this year or the new year?

You can use Jets 22 Choco Mach 1 till you have a fin sorted.
He has used one of Chris's assy fins and said they still point upwind well on the opposite tack.

Snides has a C3 Slingshot and may be the man to talk to. They come in 19, 21, and 23. From what I have heard the 19 would be the go for someone your weight on that board.
Speak to Snides and we can Hook up at the Windforce Slalom on wed for the Choco.

I have a new Slingshot 23, but it may be a bit large for your 40 and your weight. I used it once for a couple of runs but found it a bit small for my weight and board. Alternatively, I'm sure Jesper will have a Delta that will suit. They are a bit shorter in the chord so a 23 delta might work well.Talk to Snides, he uses his silver CA 40 more than anyone over here in Perth and he will be able to tell you what works best.

i have the sister ship to your ca 40 silver as well (ex dr Matt L i believe?)
I usually use the 40 down at hardies when its windy..18kn+
i use it there exclusively with a 22 weedy (reboxed drake 34)
this is the fin i have used for all my decent (pb) sessions there.
i have recently picked up a slingshot 19 and 23
also a 21 and 25 delta vector.
i have tested all these fins on a 54 manta with sails ranging 6.2 to 7.8


i recon the fins to use with the ca 40 will be the slingshot 19 or the delta 21
the slingshot 23 and the delta25 will be too big based on the fact that they are a perfect fit in my manta54.
and that also you note you are under 65kgs.

if you are sailing in choppy water (swan river) then a longer delta would be perfect say 21 or 23.

Are the Delta's less powerfull/lift than the slingshot? There's a slingshot 25cm coming out soon and wondering if will have more power/lift than the Delta 25cm?

The Delta have a bit shorter chord on the base and tip, hence area. Snides who has used both equates the 21 Delta to a 19 Slingshot.

My dad (Anthony), got the 23cm Delta yesterday and today did many runs over 40 today...i lost count.

Hi - yoyo, in your photo down the fin - is there a concave in a section of the trailing half of the camber? Thanks - Martin

Martin, yes there is a concave section at the trailing edge of the profile. They are a little thinner than the Slingshot, a little more upright (28 degrees LE compared to 30 degrees) , a little bit higher aspect ratio and a bit lighter. Additionally in Oz (Perth) they are about 10% cheaper.

Those that have them think they are the ducks nuts for speed, tho' the more upright planform does catch stringy weed a bit.
