The whole "open water" thing is garbage. These guys are crazy fast though.

The guy is UNSTOPPABLE! Again a 52 knots session and a new WR on the Nautical Mile of 43,39 knots!

Today the wind is around 55 - 76 knots in La Franqui. Not sure if they sailed haha!

Hans had an amazing day at 'The Brace' today. First sailor to do 100 km/h+ (54 knots) on open water (not a man made canal). Second fastest 2sec ever sailed! (99,6 km/h)

The WGPSSRC is currently considering a new Record category for speed courses that are not man made canals.

I personally prefer the terminology of 'Natural Speed Course', but many like the term 'Open Water'.

I am interested in comments regarding this proposal.

Open water is a bit of a misnomer as it implies somewhere away from the shore out in the ocean. It's probably more difficult to go faster on a man made location like Luderitz where the chop is quite nasty due to the constraint and reflection off the leeward bank. Behind a sandbar tends to be flatter as the chop/waves disperse downwind. Adding all these descriptions and names for separate records tends to dilute the whole idea of a record in the first place i.e. the fastest period! Leave it as it is. Additionally what allowance is made for the current that exists in tidal locations like the Brace, it's measured in man made spots like Luderitz I believe.

Roo, I prefer it au natural with speed chat
