What is the current recommended device?
Had a look at the corros...but bit expensive!
Small and wearable would be good, dont mind an aquapack, won't be breaking any records, it's just for fun.
What are you using that's available today and cheapish?
Thanks

If you don't need on the water feedback then the Mini Motion is your best option. It retails for around AUD160 plus freight costs.

I guess it depends if you're posting to the GPSTC, if you are then John's suggestion is the way to go.
If you can solder, there's a fantastic DIY project here,

Not posting to GPSTC but want to run it thru KA72, go for a Garmin. There's a specific windsurfing app for free too. Plenty here are using/downloaded it. Hard to get your hands on a Mini Morion.

My last 3 devices have been Garmin Forerunner 310XT & 2 * 910XT, all bought secondhand off ebay for around GBP40. The straps tend to last 1-2 years, then I use an aquasac. The devices 3-4 years. Sometimes the battery dies, sometimes the buttons fail. So long as I download to my laptop and remove the spikes, they are 'reasonably' ok. There are usually 1-5 spikes per hour on the track, where it records something like 25 25 15 35 25. So I delete the 15 & 35 trackpoints. If you want something accurate to 0.1knots, buy something expensive.
I ignore the max speed and take more notice of 5 * 10s average, or 500m and longer distances. So long as you dont want to upload tracks to the Ozzie website, or be considered for records on GPS-Speedsailing website, they are ok. As they are older devices, they dont support any apps to display various criteria, like 10s avg, alpha, 500m, 1nm etc.

If it's just for fun, get a Garmin and upload to Garmin Connect, which is great for archiving, shows the track, and archives all sorts of data from your sessions. Do not archive with Strava, which calculates speeds from noisy positional data, and ignores doppler speed data that the watch collects and sends to it. (Yes, most watches use doppler for speed, but do not report HDOP data.)
