Everybody with slalom/speedgear were on 6,3 I used my exocet sl 50

Just be aware of how much damage you can do crashing in that depth of water.
I know how impossible to resist that flat water is, but I don't get tempted if there's nobody else around.

And although your cut down fin would normally have a big induced drag, I have a theory that when it's so close to the bottom in weed, there's an "end plate" effect that inhibits the flow around the tip of the fin. So it's more efficient than it would be in deep water.

And if Lake George is anything to go by, don't expect to keep it for yourselves much longer. People from all over will be visiting

Looking at the edge of that Delta 16 - Maybe a bit too shallow.
Someone with more experience than me may be able to answer this but i'm pretty sure that most of the fast weed spots (here in WA at least) are not super shallow. The raked fins are for weed, not for accessing the shallows

A bit of both as far as I can see.

It is very tempting to go into the shallows at Fangy's and Liptons, as I found a few times too often. Most of the time, the bottom is soft enough to warn you enough to stop safely.

Albany has its very shallow spots as well, but you done HAVE to go into them.

LG is mostly deeper though. And in most places the bottom is very soft, enough to save you if you do go too shallow. There are a few limestone reefs though.... somewhere... don't know exactly where, but I have found them a few times.

Apparently, it can be very shallow at Budgie in the flattest water in some wind angles and water levels, so short, sub 20cm Delta type fins are desirable there for sure.

And I believe the Lake Illawarra mob sail in very shallow water at times!

In all cases when the wind it up, shortish speed fins or delta type fins are being mostly used anyhow.

That is very unfortunate. Good to hear the rider is OK. Did he hit a solid object on the bottom, like a rock or log?

well the theory was, that the delta fin would just ride up over an obstacle without doing too much damage.
I think we can now discard that theory!!!!!

Maybe the fin ride up was too quick, riders weight in front of the fin was just more strain than the sandwich could handle.

Might be an idea to go out on a SUP on a calm day and clear/ mark any hazards you can find..That's what we do over here..

I have been sailing the spot in South West a couple of times now. The waterlevel is higher as the direction is bolt onshore, which means there is some small chop around 10-15 cm and with the longest fin 22 cm it means spinout so have only been hitting around the 70 km/h mark.
So now I got these lessacher fins in 24 and 28 cm, and have some delta XT on order and some Z-fins on order for other spots, so it is going to be Christmas in august.

my personal opinion is an 18 or 19cm in the same fin as the photo would be the go for sails up to 7m
