Hi
Does anyone have any experience with the apple watch and GPS tracking while windsurfing? (apologies if this has been covered before).
Apple do warn about water incursion with activities 'like water-skiing' but I suppose if the watch was protected in a cover this might not be a problem. Not planning to use it for racing, just causal use...
Any thoughts welcome
Thanks
Pete

best mate got one (the apple 3), I checked his files through gps results, consistent data recorded every sec.
Perfectly waterproof for windsurfing and crashing (he does that a lot)
he downloaded an app (windsport I seem to remember)

cheers

How does the Apple Watch log GPS tracks? Does it use Doppler and is it SDOP?

Apple's own website suggests not to use it for any high-speed-water-impact.

well what can I say.... it still resists my mates amazing crashes
another two friends use them and still no issue

pretty sure it's a warranty thing, the first two apple watches weren't advertised as waterproof though they were

Appreciate the input. Going to give it a go with some sort of covering.. and try not to crash too hard
If there's a fail then I was only swimming in the pool. Ahem.

I have been sailing with one for ages now but haven't found a decent app to re record or log tracks yet.Sean do you mind confirming the app your mate uses?

one of them uses "gps watch workout", then uploads to ka72
apps.apple.com/us/app/gps-watch-workout/id1168169205

another is using waterspeed :
www.waterspeedapp.com/
(this one seems better)

Can it show your speed in knots while sailing?

I have the latest Apple watch and have just installed waterspeed which is free, though it costs a bit more if you want more advanced features. I haven't used the app as yet. The watch is excellent for me when I'm "on call" so now I can go sailing or supping and still available when required. I have had no problems with the waterproofing so far. Also good as a safety device, as it has a SOS function.

So it's possible to log your session, take phone calls and do FaceTime while on the water ? Potentially FaceTiming sailor to sailor mid session!
Mind blown

Hang on, I do on-call 7 days a month, I've got to respond within 10 minutes of a call
So I can re direct the on call phone to the watch, and respond to a call within time and still be on the water.

7 days extra available for sailing, partially tax deductible Iwatch and I can log my session

Far canal, why didn't I think of this before ?
