Tried an alpha today in 40hp boat, result in dead flat water was a 20kt alpha with a min. speed of 17 kts, . shows we are pretty damn quick on boards when there is some wind. Prox was about 25 metres, shows it is hard to judge even in a boat let alone on a board!

I think you will find your dads mate might have a bit of a problem with proximity mate.
To do an alpha its all about getting back within a certain distance(50m max).

i would not of said he got an alpha of that if it was not in a proximity of 50m,he took a wide turn and was lucky to just get back inside the radius. he followed that up with a 36 knot one as well.

Last week while water skiing I wore a GPS to get an idea of speeds. I hit a 2 sec peak of 31.5 knots and had an alpha of 29.481, with a minimum speed of 26.5 knots! The boat driver was doing tight circles to try and shake me off I think! First time single ski water skiing and surprisingly hard work on the thighs. Some serious G forces on those tight banked turns.
