Can anyone please pass on any tips to get me and my rig moving a bit quicker.

Board- OES Outlaw FRW 105
Sail- Reflex 5.6
Fins - 1st run 29cm GS weedy then 33cm Select S07
Wind- 18-25 NNW
Rider- Me 95kg ish wish just enough skill to be dangerous.
Spot - Second Creek, Tumby Bay, SA

Looks like a nice spot . If your 95kg you should be useing a 7m or maybe 6.3 in that wind a 5m is way to small. How fast did you get

Yeah, there was a 7m NCX in involved earlier in the day but some clown few through it. Just clicked a bit over 30.
I didn't feel overpowered.

I am no expert and I am a bit heavier than you, but I agree with Simon, I would have been on a bigger sail(and then been creative with duct tape once I had holed it:-) . I have not taken a video of my self with the camera at the end of the boom, but I would like to think my front leg is almost locked in and toes pointed when I am using my weight to get the power down. I also use long harness lines (30) to enable me to get the weight down low ( I have arms like a monkey and calluses on my knuckles) and back. A lack of self preservation genes is very helpful too.

there seams to be a bit of slack in the sail especially at the second batten so maybe a bit more down haul or batten tension, and as fangy mentioned you need longer harness lines so you can squat and lean out, and maybe try moving the foot straps back so you can lift the windward rail and sail off the fin

Longer lines, tad higher boom and as the others have said definitely a bigger sail. You should be able to hold a at least a 7.0 or easier a 6.3.

Following all tips above lock in your stance and extend the front arm, so you will accelerate in the gusts. Maybe it's just the camera, but it looks like you are not settling down.

Hi Peter, Great to see you having a good go way out there in semi isolation!

My current plans are a trip through your area on the way to (and later back from) WA in about a month. Love to catch up with you, see your spots and see if I can give you some tips to help. It's very hard to see anything significant from that slightly distorted angle.

Fangy - it will cost more in duct tape than to replace the sail. You know when you land on the rig and you think WOW that was a soft landing. My wife now knows why I don't buy brand new sails.
They are Severne 30 inch lines only a bit over a fist width apart so I might try some longer ones and see what happens.

Keef - the sail was bagged on the boom a bit to much probably looking back at the vid. Using a wave Enigma boom

Sailquik - give me a yell when you are heading this way. Its good to have someone to sail with. And to get some tips would be a great bonus.

I thought there was something a bit odd about the way the wake came out the back of the board, that board has thruster fins?

You don't seem very locked in that board is giving you a handicap what I can see looks like a super spot to sail!

I agree with Rob. Underfined BIG time! That back foot should be rock solid on that tail. No twitching out .Beautiful spot thanks for sharing!!

45 seems a bit excessive for a 5.6? the board dimensions are not too far away from my atomiq 100 and I'd be looking at 32/34cm for 5.7 and 6.3, 40cm for 7.0 and 7.8.

Do the thrusters make the board twitchy, I've never sailed a board with more than one fin?

Looks good from my point of veiw .good gear,good spot l think the above posts are good pointers for you.maybe try a underhand front grip on boom.good luck! That spot looks sensational by the way.

I was being sarcastic Ninjury all these comments relate to being under fined, the biggest fin mehore has is 22cm for a 7.5 sail, sorry micky

All the above, but also try to rotate your hips so face towards the front of the board, instead of facing the sail.

Is this the speed strip?

John340- thats the spot. E to W with a N/NNW or W to E with a WNW. There are a two other branches where nice runs are possible with fairly low mangroves on the Western edge. But the wind has always been very gusty when I have had a go. The jury is still out if it was the wind itself or the location causing the gusty conditions.

Ninjury - the board can be run as a thruster for wave sailing but only a single in this day. I will try it as a thruster another day and see how it goes.

Simon100 - I just cracked the 30kt mark. It will never be a super fast board but if I can get a few more kt's out of it that would be good.

Whenever you want Shane. If I am at work I will be at False Bay or the Whyalla foreshore and if at home we can try some where down this way.
