I've entered the world of windsurf trailers and I'm trying to work out the best way to stop the boards sliding around on the racks. The racks are covered with a type of rubber which should be fairly grippy for the boards. I don't really want to install permanent vertical bars or dividers because these racks will be removed and adjusted quite a bit.

Idea 1. Make wooden blocks with rail shapes cut out of them. These would be held to the wooden racks with some heavy duty clips. There would be two of these to secure the front of the board and two at the back. To take a board out all I would need to do is remove one and the board should come out nicely.

Idea 2. Use something like occy straps to go rap around the board between the front and back footstraps. Could be a bit fiddly when securing the front of the board.

Any suggestions or ideas, what works, what doesn't?

This is what I can cram into a lock-up box on the back of my ute.
12 sails,8 masts,5 boards and all the other stuff for the pair of us. Formula board,mast,boom and sail on top with the wave board

I set my rails with half pool noodles glued with liquid nails, and only strap the rear of the board, which is set so the boards slide in rear first, the rail sits middle between straps. The fronts don’t move at all, once you strap the rear of each board. I lined the inside with rubber mats from Clark Rubber, so when the boards are slid in, they don’t crunch on any hard surface.
Had the trailer for 2.5 years, bit like yours, takes four boards on two racks and run as far as Gnarloo in north and Walpole in south from Perth like it was set up, no issues.

I do the same ...., slide boards in and strap rear of board only, vey little movement.

Mine is a very snug fit

Do not strap for running down to Safety Bay which is only 5 minutes away or Hardies 30 minutes but would for longer trips.
I took the trailer over the Nullabour and back last year and just put the boards in bags for the trip and strapped the backs of the bags there was no damage to any of the gear.

I have my boards set on a 30 degree angle on a foam covered rack,the boards wedge in nicely and don't need to be strapped up at all.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd love to be able to jam it full of gear until everything is secure but that's an ongoing mission

I think I'll go with the idea of securing the tail end of the boards and make sure everything is well padded.

KA 360, awesome rack setup. I think I'll have a crack at this at a later date. I didn't think it would work with fins but I can see one of you JPs still has it's fin in.

Run a line of 8mm shock cord about 70mm-100mm above the front rack, this stays fixed permanatly. Then slide the nose of the board under and into position, you need a little room at the rear of the baord so you can lift the tail to allow the nose to slide under the shock cord, then a shock cord strap over the back, The back one will be tighter but the front one will stop the nose bouncing. Works a treat.

I'm with Wormy on this one. For ease of fittment the shock cord at the front would stop too much movement, and the option of straps to rear when going the long haul.
Also I put a boom on top of each board which also helps to secure the board.
