it's time to start trying a few tricks - what fin for trying freestyle on a 100L fsw?
I am 75kg and intend using 6.1m sail. Is the boom best at normal height and what about mast track position?

Boom height: I was at a comp recently where this was extensively discussed. The pro guys I chatted with claim: do what you feel like. But the fact is there is none of those booms way over the head. Look at the Tubes, it's fairly low.

I personally believe (like one of them in particular) in lower booms at first is good, for most moves, esp. those where you may have to crouch, i.e. duck tack. But I like them high for flaka's, where you have to reach out. Go figure.

There is an interesting article on the Web (Jem Hall from memory) that claims to have them high, yet all of this pictures had the lowest I had even seen !!!

Fin: almost the smaller the better, but to an extent. Depend on the moves though.

The ORDER is most important: draw a list of few moves you want to start with. Don't go all over the map. Start with the easier ones, that will lead to others - I won't suggest a list 'coz I don't know where you're at now.

Learning curve for all moves is in terms of number of tries, as in "took me 400 attempts to get the first ones". They're often 100s and not 10s. Bunch them in 10s - try 10, take a breather and wonder what you're doing wrong, then try again. No point in doing the same mistake 100 times in a row without thinking about it. That's what I do: spend the day wondering what I'm doing wrong ;)

Have fun !

hi cruiser i'm thinking the 6.1 is a little big for learning. i'd be looking at a 5.8 or smaller, from my own unsuccessfull attemptes i've found the smaller the sail the better.

i've noticed the guys in brissy and goldy seem to use wave fins. 24cm or there abouts.
