Not at all, I thought I would. But I kited more when I was in WA than here ..reason is : anytime there's no wind I surf.

in fact Kitesurfing in Perth itself "could" make sense as there's no waves (ok Gero is a different story...)
but hey surf is good ! I don't like flat water

No you got it wrong fish. I think Leski knows as I do. Wind and waves = windsurf. No wind and waves = surf. No wind no waves = do something else i.e. mt bike. Kite surfing is gay. There is no time to do a fag sport like kiting.

what I mean is anytime there's waves (wind or not) you've got to be out there
and then if there's really no waves at all and it is windy...well then maybe kitesurfing is still a cheap way of wakeboarding.

i think u guys in the bay get better wind than us. i live at currumbin and its rarely sailable on a southerly, and only jumpable on a northerly. This time of year we do get some sailable SE days where the wind is the right direction.

at one stage i was spending alot of time in the surf but i personally got sick of waiting around for wind and only getting maybe an hour of fun sailing. lately i'm enjoying learning some freestyley stuff at the broadwater, and generally get half a day of sailing each time i go there, instead of only an hour. I recently bought a freestyle board and it's added a whole new spark of fun for me. i even wen and bought a new boom, mast, and sail too! I've never bought brand new stuff before

peto you are right, i dont sail at nobbies enough im only 14 so its a bit hard to get in there when parents are at work, and i live a 5 minute walk from the point so i sail there..went to nobbys yesterday though, wasnt much wind though...but i dont remember talkin up always sailen there[}:)]...o well, dont want to fight

Yeah, what Vando said goes double for me. Anyway it aint exactly flat @ Manly and when you're fully lit on a flighty modern slalom, it's enough to get some adrenalin pumping.
Don't get me wrong, you wave dudes have my greatest respect. It's just awesome to see huge airtime backloops and double forwards, but it's all just a bit too much for me.

Vando you know I dont have a problem with slalom/speed. It's just you're missing out on half of the sport.

And not many people can push a slalom board to 42knots.

Mark its not that i dont like freestyle its just where we sail is more suited to slalom.Besides i still have more tricks up my sleeve than you.

Admittedly out of all the broadwater sailors apart from myself, there are only 3 others who are attempting anything freestyle-ish (sorry if i've forgotten anyone else). So the goldcoast probably couldn't contribute much towards the competition as far as sailors go. I'm about the only one who's learn't to loop on the flattish water, but there are several guys out in the surf who can do them providing there are waves, but I think loops would be about the extent of their repertoire and wouldn't be interested in freestyly stuff.

The rest of the broadwater gang are really just interested in back'n'forth sailing and attempting to out gun each other. No doubt a speed event would be the most accessible by most sailors as even those just new to getting into the straps can have a go, and speed seems to be the natural first step in windsurfing, till the novelty wears off (obviously for some it never does)

I'd love to see a freestyle event happen locally! I'd also love to see a superX event run as I recon that would be kick-ass to watch. I guess to increase the appeal to the average sailor, in the beginning you could drop the standard loop and spock requirements, and just have the sausage jumping and mandatory duck gybes?! How cool would that be?
