just saved myself a bucket load of money on my big boom.

I split the clamp last season and never got around to fixing it and the boom clips had been taken off it to keep my wave boom on the water. decided enough was enough as I really need to get my 6.4 back on the water for those 12-18 knot days.

$145 for a maui boom head and $24 for new clips and my $1200 boom is looking brand new again. pretty happy. I've had the boom for 6 or more years and hope to get another 6 or more out of it.

by then a new boom will b $1800 because this one cost me $600 and a replacement today is $1200.

why are booms so expensive........oh that's right it's because I like carbon.

next is the fibrespar skinny leaning against the wall for the last 6 years with a broken arm. now where is that broom handle and araldite ?????

I put a new hydro head on my x6 boom a couple of years ago. I've only used it a handful of times since and decided to rig it on the weekend... cost me a 400m swim!

bugger, never much fun that.

I'm hoping I don't suffer the same fete. the new head seems pretty solid and the boom is continuous so finger crossed.

was yours a one piece head?

Thanks Jase but all's good. It was one of the arms that snapped right next to the head, the head itself is still good. I had a feeling that this would happen eventually as the x6 had a continuous head and I doubt is meant to be cut and attached to a seperate head. With 110kegs swinging off it, it was always going to happen.

I got a few years out of the boom before the original crack appeared at the head and only attempted the repair due to purchasing a hydro head as a spare and having it on hand.

I've got a boom that will get me through the windy days but now on the hunt for a 180+ boom for a big guy to rig for those marginal days.
