I am currently sanding back a board which I intend to completely re paint and install new eva footpads etc. I have previously removed large sections of de laminated deck on said board about 6 years ago and repaired using D cell and epoxy then I coated the entire top of the board with tinted epoxy and sugar for grip. My problem is this coating is sooo hard after 7 hrs sanding I am only about 1/4 done and it renders all sand paper I have tried blunt almost immediately. I am using random orbital sander and a large orbital sander, the belt sander is fairly affective but the finish is too rough and runs the risk of removing to much and leaving lines etc. Does anyone know the best way to remove this coat without damaging underlying materials, it is approximately 1.5 to 2mm thickness?

Yeah its a hard one. A variable speed buffer/polisher with a foam pad and about 80 to 120gr on it would be safest (that's what I use for the first hard cut back on a hotcoat that's a bit bumpy so its safe on one thick coat of epoxy)
But don;t get it too hot, move lots or wet sand

You don';t have to remove all the epoxy though, just the roughness (?)

Good advice worked really well was able to strip the epoxy coating entirely in a controlled fashion with the buffer and foam pad in 2 hrs then wet and dry orbital sand and its pretty much ready to start painting
