Well being winter and all its a perfect time for me to get round to regripping my 110 isonic that needed doing at the start of last season.

I have a prity much unlimited supply of tools, air compressor, spray gun etc. just wondering what is the simplest, most effective, cheapest and best looking way to do it. I have checked board lady but his method seems time consuming.....

patients is not a virtue required in windsurfing, otherwise i would have stuck with fishing.....

hope others keep boards long enough to come across this problem

I regriped my pro-kids stype reciently using advice from recent posts, I havn't actually sailed the board since but Im happy with the result.

I did a test piece on some white board as practice and to decide which suger to use, caster seemed to fine, a mixture of caster and normal seemed about right but went for normal suger in the end, nice and grippy!

This is what I did,

Step 1, mask area off and sand off old grip, be carefull not to sand to much or you will damage graphics.

Step 2, I aplied a uv resistant non yellowing epoxy called Bote-Cote with one of those small foam rollers from Bunnings. make sure it is an even coat.

Step 3, I sprinkeled normal suger from one of those plastic shakers you can get from the supermarket. Keep sprinkling until you can't see the epoxy anymore

Step 4, Wait a couple of days and brush and wash off excess suger.

Step 5, I found that normal suger is very coarse so I just took the tops of with a very very light sand.

Jman description is perfect depending on board size 30 to 50ml of resin. I've tried clear 2 pack it looks neater but wears out quickly.

Same...I used a clear poyurethane (Pylon - timber lacquer) and standard sugar. Works a treat! NEVER USE SAND! Otherwise you'll need a grinder to remove later.

Hey just a quick question, with the sugar...did anyone else have issues with ants?

I don't think all those prerequisites go into the same sentence well.

I've done my old slalom board with an off the shelf grip additive, Berger Jet dry. There's another one by White Knight but its far too fine.
For a neat job use your spray gun with a 2 pack paint or epoxy (uv resistant). Tape off the area, spray on the resin then use a salt shaker with the grip to evenly dust on the grip. Don't mix the dust into the paint, it'll come out slippery. Remove tape before the resin dries. Voila.

You can use the roler as stated but you don't need that much resin staying on the board, I'd suggest roll a little on then squeegee it around the deck to spread it alot further if you aren't using the spray equipment.

Good point sailpilot I forgot to mention to unmask before the resin drys

I've had that in Qld, after a lunch break went back to my gear and the whole deck grip area was black with ants and that's was with an old board with a slippery deck. They know it's in there somewhere.
I do my deck grip the same as Jman but use castor sugar. The grip doesn't come from the lumps from the sugar but from the craters left once the sugar grains have devolved in water afterwards and I find the smaller grains give more surface area without being too corse.

Do you need the EVA foam pads as well. Not sure if you can get it in pre-cut shapes for the board. However I have found a guy that sells the deck grip in a roll, enough to do an entire sup. He mentioned one of the patterns he had was a diamond pattern, so hopefully its like the isonics . I need some too, I'm going to check it out next week. If it's the right stuff I'll grab a roll and let you know.

I bought a one by two meter roll off him years ago for about $100. Done eight boards with the one sheet, has good grip too and is self adhesive.

surfboard wax is cheap, quick and u look really good while applying it.

Got out on the regriped board today in really choppy conditions and the non slip was great, no problems slipping off when gybing now.

If you use salt/sugar make sure it's dry. Mine formed large clumps and made a very grippy, yet wet suit shredding grip.

Make use of your aircompressor one way or another.... I'm pretty sure official regrippings are done with one.

Agreed, and don't regrip late afternoon, on rainy days or at night. It may look like your've done a perfect job but the damp air will soften the sugar before the resin cures reducing grip. I like to get the board warm in the sun before I start to help kick the resin off quicker and do it before lunch.

I got a couple of those EVA interlocking pool tiles (70x70cms?) from Clark rubber. They don't have much grip on them so I set up a router jig and routered the crossed pattern in them. Worked a treat!
