hi all
Is it really that important to have a higher % of carbon in mast for a np firefly sail as was planning on just a basic 430 rdm matrix with 35% carbon... 65% the price jumps considerably?
Does the same apply for a boom as well... Is carbon % super important?
cheers

90-100% masts are too fragile. 60-80% is a good compromise.
Booms are either cabon or aluminium. There are a few weird hybrids, where only a section is made from carbon, and the rest from aluminium, but they bring nothing to the table - not as stiff and durable as carbon, but not as cheap as aluminium.
Carbon boom stiffness really starts to matter the longer you extend the boom. BTW, I've seen aluminium booms break, but not carbon ones. IMO, a second hand carbon one is preferable to a new aluminium one.
