Nice to see that the City council complain to hell and high water over the $145K bill for removing a dead whale carcass and making the beach safer for users, but they'll "splash" the cost of a pool at a beach no worries.
Maintenance costs alone for a beach side pool must be astronomical.

I worked for a council for a few months and was told that the pools made a nice profit, which was of course used for subsidising other activities....like removing whale carcasses perhaps!

Removing that whale could have been done alot cheaper than it was.

Nice to see they listened to the survey responses about the future of Scabs. All the windsurfers / kiters / surfers / fisho's said leave it the fk alone so we can access it for our hobbies.

Typical "consultation" they intended to ignore all along

All the windsurfers / kiters / surfers / fisho's might support some local business, but can you imagine the profit on a pool....$$$$$$

They could charge $10 entry fee with an additional $5 Shark Premium and people would still be lining up like Krispy Creams.

The people who live near the old Scarborough school site were promised a replacement pool when that land was sold off. Instead they got a basketball stadium / community hall. They kept agitating and were promised that the new pool would be at the Hamersley Golf course. Argument was always that the cost of running the pool was the issue, not the capital cost of building it.

So Stirling dont think (or dont admit) that the pool would make a profit. I suspect but may be wrong that the money for the Hamersley pool is now being earmarked for Scarborough.

Seems to me an ocean pool should be sea water, ideally just something that flushes with the tides and stops the big fish getting in.

I wonder if we can convince kiters its the perfect flat water for dingly dangly stuff.
