had anny one tried and tested out the new black and orange POINT 7 sails available at board crazy stores ..... not sure if u can get them anny were else .. was thinking of getting the sado 3.3 or 3.7 to go with my 4.2 and 5m .. anny thoughs how those sails would work with a sailworks lipstick 400/19

There all new to Australia, i was talking to Andy about them a few weeks ago when i was over, no ones tried them out yet, they do look like they will be decent wave sails, the company is only new so there ain't much info one them yet.. the formula sails have been on the water and have had a good rap from the guys using them and these guys are dam good racers..

One of the local wave sailors is going to get on them as soon as they come in, he is realy particular about his sails so that will be a good indication if they are all systems go, he has the sailworks mast to try with them too..

The Point 7 sails are excellent. In 2009 we decided to try them out here in Ireland. I got myself a quiver of the AC-1 sails to use on the slalom tour here. I also got one of the wave guys here sorted out with a mix of the Sado and Swell wave range.

I am delighted with the AC-1 sails. Firstly they look the business - something different from the usual designs. The construction and materials are as good as it gets. This is the first time that I have had a quiver of sails at the end of the season that look brand new - no wrinkly monofilm, nicks in the luff tube etc... Given the current economy, price is also a major issue for everyone - a quick look at the price list will answer this question. Compare against pryde and north and you will be shocked...

Mark was using the wave sails throughout the year here and is also extremly happy with his choice. He sails some fairly heavy conditions here on the west coast of Ireland. He has had nothing but praise for both the Swell and the Sado. Using the swell for the big down the line stuff and the sado for the more mushy onshore conditions. Again the construction of the sails has been commented on regularly..

Point 7 also supply a great range of masts. We have had no problems with the masts to date and all sails work very well on the recommended masts. Again all masts are made in Italy and not in China. Certain models come with a 2 year warranty and the new BICO mast is rather intresting - demonstrating that these guys are putting alot of R&D work into the masts. Price also good on these..

In summary I cannot praise the guys enough for what they have produced and put up to the big guns. Dennis the sales manager is great to deal with - very helpful and patient with all the questions. Have raced with the founder Andrea before at the worlds - he is a gentleman and his professional competition manner seems to be carried over into his new venture.

As a result of my positive experience with Point - 7 - I setup a small company this year and this week I will receive my first big order direct from the factory.

So are all my opinions biased as I am now selling Point-7 sails? - I dont think so. I went to the effort to setup a company in order to ensure I can supply my fellow windsurfers with some excellent kit! It is just a small venture on the side. I aint go to make a million on it - but I think the guys at Point 7 have got it right and I am looking forward to seeing some more black machines on the water here in Ireland....

Judging by the pics in the banner ads on this site, the point 7 sails don't have a clear window. They are yellow where a window usually is.
Which makes me think do you need a window on a sail anyway? Obviously the point 7 people think not.
Does anyone look through the window on their sails? I know I don't.

Went to the website to see what they looked like, they need to update their pics, all the pics on their website of their wave sails are on slalom boards, in slalom conditions, kinda strange. Apart from that they look pretty sweet.

Being able to see what the wave is doing is pretty important... especially in down the line conditions when it gets overhead.
Mind you, once it gets some size to it, having a big sail window or none at all makes no difference when you shut your eyes

The window panels is actually using an orange tinted UV monofilm. It's actually very clear to look through; kind of like low-visibility cycling glasses with orange lenses. Works quite well and its kind of a refreshing look compared to clear.

You need to have panels to look through. Otherwise you'll crash in to people ... but the orange will last longer than normal clear monofilm as it is more resistant to the UV rays which kill it. Exactly like the dark tinted monofilm on the NP race sails.

Re: the wave photos on slalom boards. Fair call... The photoshoot was done on Sardinia in April and there is some pretty nice wave spots there with the right conditions. Not Ho'okipa, but real world wave conditions. Unfortunately the conditions didn't happen and when you're up against a brochure deadline; you're up against a brochure deadline. Stuck with using the wave sails on flat water ... they wave sails are tested by Martin ten Hoeve on all the PWA wave spots and more; so don't think they are flat water sails ...

I never sail in waves.
I find I'm usually looking ahead, and sometimes behind, but I'm never aware of looking through the sail window. Maybe I do it without realising.

They look pretty hot in those photo's.. they say the black is to stop the UV light going through the film and bracking it down, apparently the light actually going through the film is how it damages it..

Wonder if Ben Severne has any feedback on the black film, he's using a bit of it this year too..

they look great would u guys say they are quite expensive for an unknown brand looking at the prices at the bottom? i think mainstream wave sails like gaastra, np, north are around $850 rrp aren't they, and are probably sold for less than rrp in the shop? The whole p7 range certainly look pretty schmick though. i'd reckon if the shops were actually selling them at 650-750 bucks they'd sell well just on looks alone

what does a new KA or Loft 5.5m-ish wave sail cost these days?

Haircut, I know prices of sails these days are a bit high, but Point7 actually go alright against other brands. I was recently quoted $905- $920 for a 4.7m Severne and Naish wave sails compared to Ponit7 at $862 4.7m from Boardcrazy. I know NP, North and Gaastra are advertised above $900 also.

Yeah, I think if your in good with local shop, little deals get done reducing cost which is great. I know sails were around that $850 mark couple of years ago.

I think $850 is possibly for smaller sail sizes, say <5m, but anything larger and ur looking easily $900+ for a premium brand wavesail. The most expensive I have seen a 2010 5.9m north ego is rrp around $1200. Heck even ezzy's are getting towards $900+ now.

Thats why after a month of shopping I got a simmer instead soon to be plural.

the prices are kinda crazy eh.

I actually wanted a north ego.. in the pink colourway that victor fernadez has, but kinda super expensive so had to can the idea.

what ever happened to a socially accepted 33% profit on cost? <-- referring to manufacturers rrp, not the poor shop owner

can remotely understand a fully cammed race sail being a little more expensive, but a wave sail? no wonder people went kitesurfing

i only just payed $500for a brand new 2009 3.8 rev and $700 2 months back for a 4.2 rev ... haveing the latest gear doesnt way up deformace verse cost for me .. andrew mentioned to me 2 weeks just on wednesday if i wanted to wait instead of buying the 3.8
